50 pounds over your head? what do they have you do with 50 pounds that you cant handle??
-
My ex FIL can drag nets loaded with 4-500 lbs of fish in the boat all day. But can't lift a gallon jug of milk over his head. -
tell them you are applying to drive, not be a forklift replacement!

thanks for the support, but I'm still worried. By the time I got to the fifty pounds I had already done so much other lifting from floor to waist, that my arm and legs were trembling, It's just the not knowing, and hating the thought of another trip home. Job description at both companies, is no tounch freight, and in the last ten years that has been the case. I have worked for JB Hunt twice before, and passed the screens that they had both times, but then you only had to lift to the back of the trailer. I have been unemployed for about a year and a half, I believe that while I was driving I kept my upper body in better shape, just from climing in and out of the truck.
anybody know exactly what is required, please let me know, orientation is coming Tusday. -
We designed our work demand analysis around everyday tasks that a driver may have to complete. While the majority of our freight is no touch there may come a time when you have to tailgate or fingerprint a load and therefore you must be able to meet the minimums.
I know that you will have to lift some weight atleast to trailer height as well as carry it across the room to simulate certain tasks but as far as lifting anything overhead, I can't say with any real certainty. -
IMHO, strength evaluations are skewed and pretty much worthless.
While I may find it difficult to carry 70 lbs across the room and back without raising my heart rate. Or lift 100 lbs over my head. I can easily tailgate a 300 lb sleeper sofa. After taking it down (with zero damage) from the top of a stack...if stacked. Without a dolly.
I've worked with awkward sized/shaped freight for "most" of my life. And learned long ago, we make tools to assist us with heavy/difficult moves.
Why is it companies want us to prove we can handle "new" electronics technology. But demand that we make a show of brute strength regarding freight handling. Freight handling/securement technology has come a long way in the past 100 years.
And the only reason someone would have to unload by hand, would be a screw up. Caused either by the driver, shipper, consignee, or the broker who bid the load as driver unload.
There are exceptions of course. But very few in general freight. -
The only things I can remember that were strength eval were if the position were including Floor Loaded Freight. Last time I recall having seen one of those on the computer was Family Dollar out of Marianna, FL. 'course, I left em in 2007, things may have changed since then.

Sounds like you are with JB in some fashion or the other. We will all know this coming tuesday how the strength evation came out. I really appreciate the qp at any rate, I dont feel as bad about this as before, an as for as jb goes, it will be their last strike, and it wont take that long to tell, yah, I know, I may have to stay a little longer than I like, but when it comes the time to leave there are no excuses, I'll just leave. thanks again,

Here's a update to the companies orientation and strength evation, JB Hunt Atlanta done Nov. 09, 2010
Well the orientation is over, and I'm at home waiting for a doctor to sign off on two of the meds I'm tk'n, has soon as that is cleared, they say they will probably dispatch me from house to a truck they'll asign to me, I hope so, tiired of buses an motel rooms.
Now, the thing that I was worried about in the strength evation, was no problem at all. The most you had to lift was fiftty pounds, (and never over your head), had to be carried about 8 to 10 ft four times, then you sat the box in front of what was supposed the back of the trailier, then pick it up and place it on the the trailier floor, tilting the box was acceptable and so was sliding it into place and bracing it with your body as you placed the box in the back. I end with yoou setting it back in the floor. there were several others evations, but they don't break a sweat
The only thing I found difficault was the three minutes timed quick pase stepping up one step and back down. I didnt get anyone that I know of, it was that this worked on everyone, no matter how healty or fit you were
