I would pass on that engine. All dpf only engines suck and the cats are the worst of them.
I've got one and it almost put me under. Every part of the aftertreatment system has been replaced . Most more than once. The basic engine is ok the emissions system is junk.
Ask to see the ECM print out for mpg etc. Also ask to see all warrantee claims on the engine. I'll bet the seller won't want to show them to you .
There is a reason that truck is cheap , and it's that motor.
Best of luck what ever you decide........
PS I've owned this thing since it was new, and I was warned !Pound Puppy Thanks this. -
I bought a 09 KW t-800 with cat c-15 475 hp. it has a dpf. My truck only has 69k miles on it when I got it.it's a local delivery truck. So far I've had zero problems with dpf. mine has all updates, I was told from dealer that sold my truck when new. it regens automatically about every 8 hrs, comes on for a few minutes at a time. I am

I don't know much about them but we were doing a job on the oil patch in Alberta , the other guy had a 2009 Pete with a cat engine, it was sitting for about 1.5 hours on high idle then we noticed oil underneath, the driver lifted the hood and we could see quiet plainly the head had split on the right side almost exactly half way back, I never thought this was possible , the engine was just rebuilt and didn't drop a valve or overheated or anything, I've no idea what caused it but just keep it in mind maybe it's a fault with them

Look at it this way if it's a 2008 there is a chance that, that truck is a lab rat. We bought a 09 t660 at 400k 600k Now and has had its issues
I guess u can hit or miss 50/50 -
The truck I am looking at is an 08 and has high mileage, but it is a one owner truck. It was traded in for a fancier truck. I get the impression that whomever had it took care if it, and it had to have been well maintained to rack up so many miles. Just over 700 k on a 2008.. so thats about 140,000 a year.

I got the KW with the Cat, 5.5 mpg hand calculated so far. And no problems yet. 78k to 80k gross. Not bad with the weather and wind the way its been. I dont run faster than 65mph usually though. And with the 18 and 3.36s that keeps the rpms down

Mine literally baked an alternator, turbo, wire harness, broke rocker studs. ARD head, plugged filters, fuel check valves. Breather filter. 3.7 loaded, 4.8 empty.
Cat bragged about their visitors center on an online forum, I replied that they should have a memorial wall for everybody they left high and dry with the SDP. They deleted the post.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 6, 2014
