Hey guy's i went last week to check Peterbilt 579,... wow.... much more interesting then T680, more space in the sleeper and feel's more comfortable...but did not driven it yet. Next week will try to drive one.
For the moment I'm starting to lean more towards Pit 579, will see were it goes...

    Not necessary.

BS. Both trucks are built on same platform. Slightly different bunk layout, fridge on RIGHT (opposite to t680's LEFT side), volvo-style pivoting table on LEFT. Traditional pocket on back wall.

Again, same platform as T680. With all consequences.

OK, guys. 150,000+ on odometer and 12 months passed away.

Overall good impression, but there are a lot of things for Paccar to improve. All my previous complains remain in effect.

    Engine:
iSX15 550 rocks. But there are traditional complains about coolant leak (still cant find it) and noise. Made 100,000 miles on same oil using FS2500. Going to change it soon though. NOx sensor problem has appeared ones. Never fixed it. Didn't happen again. Winter\wind MPG drops to 6.8-7.2 fully loaded which is still good for me.

    Gear box:
Ultrashift+ is ok, but there is also many stuff to improve. Control logic is first in this list: not always optimal shift moments are the biggest problem for me. Other than that only good impressions. Changed oil in all boxes on 60,000.

    Steering:
I did wheel alignment but still fill truck pulls me to the right. Its a bit uncomfortable since my right hand must hold the steer tension almost all the time. On previous volvo was the same sht.

    Tires:
changed steer tires at 110,000, put it to trailer. Installed centramatic. Wear is even that is good. Did alignment once at 80,000. Will do again at spring.
Rear tires looks perfect. I do use crossfire, changed 2 of them during this year - poor QC. Nontheless, relatively strong vibration appears last 10,000 on different speeds, some times in 35-45mph, sometimes 54-59mph. Guys at Loves Tire Service says this is drive shaft issue (!?), but I think this is tire issue. Will try to rotate it 180.

    Hood:
poor hood holding devices - a lot of creak noise on platforms where hood is laying. Fixed with some fabric.

    Mirrors:
hood mirrors are pain in ###. Was trying to buy square shape new mirrors, but guys in dealership couldn't find it (part #) in a system - they need VIN. WTF? So now I need to fool around a truck stop and "steal" somebody's VIN to order mirr for myself.
Main mirrors are good but still I feel they are too small. it is safe to extend it at least 2 inches vertical and 1 inc horizontal.

    Doors:
good enough but seal needs to be improved. On strong lateral wind door upholstery still allows some (cold) air to blow in my forearm. Upholstery on quick stare is good, but when you look closer its not so perfect: matter is inconsistent, colors don't match and color gamut leaves to want more. Central lock makes noise while working, this is not good.
No remote on doors. Thats bad.

    Cab:
Water leak problem with marker light. Fixed. Narrow space between seats, 1 foot narrower than in normal truck. I like space and I really do not understand how people love their T660 or so.
Dashboard has good layout but there is still many things to improve. Beginning with gauges layout and finishing with foot-well lighting.
My main complaint about cab is lack of space.

BTW, Minimizer floor mats appears on some retailers.
need to buy one kit for my t680.

    deming 807:

I have a 2015 T680. What "fabric" did you use for your hood noise? I have that same "thumping" noise when I hit big bumps in the road.
One of my marker lights may need to be resealed too. Only happened one time, but I had a few drops of water coming down my visor arm on drivers side.

I just put tri-folded cut of regular blanket. :) Sounds stupid but it worked for me more or less.
Dont wait, pull truck to dealer and get roof leak fixed.
I fixed mine, but once in this winter I had few water drops due to condensate between roof and ceiling cover. Very bad engineering.

You saying BS. But at the same time you admit that it's different inside... Same cabin platform, yes, but in the bunk way different. The 680 less comfortable, for me at least. I prefer the look of 579 from the outside as well. Did you check it yourself by visiting the dealer? And how long ago?

That's not the argument. It just we exchange here opinions on T680 and Paccar. No need for convincing, just reflecting on opinions and experience. I'm shore people who got T680 were checking 579 as well.
And one more think it's that its completely different platform bunk, this bunk you can take out after 5+ years and make it day cab!

That's not the argument either. In 2-3 years I will trade my truck and buy new one for MANY reasons. The times when you keep same old truck are long gone. :)
As for 579 I wouldn't buy it simply because, lets say, of its ugly prosthetic roof top. ;) Sure everybody has its own opinion and plans in mind. I would buy in a heartbeat t700 with current t680's interior and facelifted exterior. But this not gonna happen anytime soon.

I'm not planing on keeping this truck for years, just saying it may attract more buyers when you going to sell it. So it is different from T680. That's the argument.
Now you talking! :biggrin_25519:.. That's what I love to hear from you, the real reasons and you preference, as real customer, who know his needs and likes.
