Looks like I'm going to have to do the full works here. All the bags leak, the support brackets going to the frame are all rotted, and the air line extensions are rotted too. What kind of bill am I looking at for parts? Are there any tricks or better aftermarket parts? I'm probably going to get everything sandblasted and painted with POR 15 so I don't have to do this again.

Last time I bought AG-series airbags they were around $120/each. I imagine the mounting plates are going to probably be $50/piece. I forget if the AG-200 has the little aluminum block that mounts around the bag air supply fitting (is that the air line extension you mentioned?), but if so, those little 4" x 2" x 2" (approximately) suckers were $20-$30 each from Kenworth, and that was a few years ago. You're better off finding aluminum bar stock and cutting them to size and drilling them out.

You might want to check for replacement OEM air bags...I don't know who the original manufacturer was, but they HAVE to be cheaper than Kenworth. The mounting plates are a Kenworth-specific part, so you'll unfortunately have to pay the piper on those.

If I could make a recommendation - try getting your hands on some zinc chromate and prime all the aluminum pieces completely in that BEFORE assembly. That's the green or light yellowish-green primer that has been used on aircraft aluminum structures for years...and for good reason. Once you have the bags back on, spray another coat of zinc chromate on the parts concentrating on where they join. Then you can prime and paint.

Lastly, try using ACF-50 on the aluminum crossmember to steel frame joints, as well as the aluminum suspension components. We used this stuff in the aviation industry and it really works well. Here is a link to one place you can get it: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/acf50.php

    Good luck!

IMHO, if you are going through the rebuild expense plus added cost of blasting & coating, you would be better off upgrading to the AG400. Yeah, more $$$$$$, but a way better setup. It's only money, lol
    good luck

I like this suggestion the best!

I have a '79 K100 that I try to keep close to how it would have looked back in the day, so I stuck with the AG-100 on it...but a cutoff conversion isn't a bad idea at all. Once you factor in 8 bags, 8 plates, all the other little stuff...converting the suspension over might be more cost effective in the long run.

I still recommend utilizing zinc chromate and treating with ACF-50 once a year or so to slow the electrolysis/corrosion issues. Notice I said slow...not stop.

It is already upgraded to ag400. Maybe I mis spoke and its ag400 all along. But that's neither here nor there. I don't think there's any aluminum. I was planning on using por 15 on everything.

    Thanks for the tips.

It is in fact originally a AG-200 and has been upgraded to AG-400. Here's a quote from the local KW dealer:

A little cheaper than I thought. Will likely need hoses, clamps, and maybe bolts too. I forgot to ask if bolts come with the air springs. They come with the upper bracket. Looking around the net I can't find anything that beats those air spring prices by much, and consider the above prices are in Canadian it's about equal.

Nope! Bolts, nuts and washers are all extra. I'd suggest that when you take them off, head over to your nearest fasteners place, and have them matched up. Including the nuts on the bottom of the airbags.

    Cheers,

Found a local source for the Goodyear airbags at $100 a piece, that knocks it down to $1100 plus bolts and nuts.

I see you found the air springs cheaper yet.
Here's another source I found a while back, just in case you need something that you can't find elsewhere or cheaper.

See the post above yours, I don't think I can get any cheaper than that.
