I agree that it's all about the type of trainer one gets---one who is only after the $$$, or a true 'mentor.'
In my case I bailed on the 26 yo (I could have been his dad!) after 1 week and did fine under the 35 yr experienced (was 62 yo?) for the remaining 2 wks. I've seen many 'young' drivers drive just long enuf to get enuf $$ to party during their off time; and older drivers (over 50 yo) drive and save $$$ often looking toward retirement. But again, individuals regardless of age are different, but I've seen a 'trend.'
For those younger drivers starting out, dont fall into spending all your $$$ on partying; but if serious about making trucking a career, save, either toward your own truck where you take both the risks as well as the rewards for your efforts---or save toward a post-driving retirement, which is more difficult these days with banking interest rates being almost 'zero!' (Thk you QED & printing $$$).
Just some old fart advice...OD
