Make sure you get the in lab sleep study done. Don't let them give you the home test kit. The lab study will be much more accurate in determining whether you actually have sleep apnea or not. Sure the test will get pricey, but compared to being stuck with a machine you don't actually need its worth it. A machine you will have to use otherwise you'll lose your medical card.

I'm not paid to unload fright that is something the Shipper/Cons/Knight works out and is included in the Load rate. I'm contracted to get it from Point A to Point B on time. =)Leftnut Thanks this. -

You're Refrig and so most likely wont have these type situations.
It used to be 'standard' in trucking that a driver wasnt cleared of a load (got paid!) until the load was off his truck. Guess today, drivers are drivers and not "truckers!!" Truckers were reqd to "do it all," as in whatever it took!.....
I've tailgated: furniture over multiple stops to small store chains, appliances to the rear doors for small local Sears store transfer, and even some Fry's grocery stops with pallet jack onto their docks, etc. But that was over 5 yrs dry van w/Knight---if you have been in the industry the 9 yrs per your profile, then you have had to 'been there too!'...... -
Most of my experience before coming to the lower 48 was hauling logs, Loading and unloading. But I was paid a darn decent wage for such, Yes I worked my skin to the bone but it was a good honest days work for a honest days pay. My Grandpa owned his own little small fleet of rigs and we all pulled our share, when my grandpa passed on and I got married I moved down to the lower 48. It was quite a shock coming down here to what the industry is here, Hence why my attitude is now as such. -
And no the physical didn't kill him. Lol -
So looks like they shud change the name on this forum from "Truckers Report" to "Wheel Monkeys Report".. -
Oh? Care to elaborate?

i.e. just about anyone that has access to $3K can get a CDL and sit behind the steering wheel of a big rig.
A "trucker" can do it all---including doing basic repairs on their tractor & trailer (& keep moving), as well as what it takes to get a load 'safely' delivered to a customer in a timely manner, which takes much "good judgment" in knowing how far to trust their skills and press their rig in so doing. Not 'everybody' with a CDL can 'successfully & consistently' do that! -
Well maybe if the trucking industry had kept up with the times and with the pay they wouldn't have this problem.
Fact is the reason why the trucking world is in the state iit is is because companies never raised pay. You add that up with hos these days and you just can't make the same money anymore.
There is still many good truckers out there but you will find far and few that will go that extra mile as a company driver.
Its simple math really. You can't expect to pay a guy the same wage for the same job as you did in the 70s. The cost of living has gone up. A thousand bucks doesn't get you nearly as far now days as it did back then.
So let me ask you sir. Why should a guy work harder for less money? That's what this all boils down to.
The driver shortage was created by the industry itself. The only people to blame are the companies.bigjoel Thanks this.
