Vegas is actually not a bad area, rates out for dry vans will range from 1.50-3.50 depending on the freight. Show loads tend to pay best but can be a headache if you lack patience. Great paying light loads have a habit of showing up and there can be some great runs to FL or other SE places. Running into Vegas can be easy also,I run into Vegas and empty move back home to So Cal maybe once a month or so. Its 180 miles give or take and it gets me by the house and close to all that great freight in So Cal. Empty moving onto the PHX lanes is also an option, running north up I-15 can be okay but you run a big chance of a long empty move out or ending up with one of those 1.50/45k gems that tend to go to die up in UT,ID,OR and WA. I have empty moved from SLC to Vegas,So Cal and PHX more times than I have left loaded.

Really its a toss up,for me because I tend to run I-40,I-10 and I-5 I find Cali and TX seem to come to mind. Remember you can load into Cali then pick up a Vegas pretty easy. We live in an area that pays real well going out, getting back at 2.00+ can take some work.

If your considering Landstar dont let the other threads discourage you. We all do our own thing which is what makes the LS business model great. There is a ton of money to be made over here but as you will see its not for everyone. I can tell you I would bust my butt to help any BCO which is something I cant truthfully say about alot of guys I worked with at My Teamster job or Walmart.

    NCT_PA Thanks this.
