Landstar Questions

Feel free to post your questions about Landstar here. I was a proud Landstar O/O for about a yr and a half. I sold my truck to be home more and leave the OTR rat race.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have and some of the old answers may be just the thing some one else might be wondering about. There are a few other Landstar BCOs here that may be able to answer a question I can't.

Drive safe.

Don't blame me, I didn't vote for the anti American crew.

So what is your over all impression?

Seems like the Best of the Worst from what I've heard.

I loved working with Landstar. I sold my truck to get out of OTR. Had nothing to do with Landstar.

But you'll find other folks who totally disagree with me.

My opinion is that if you cant make money at LS you shouldn't be in business for yourself, but others will also disagree with that too.

That is the answer that I get from all the LandStar drivers that I talk to . I also find that if a driver doesn't work for LandStar then they tend to bash LS.
But I've heard almost nothing but good stuff concerning LandStar. I agree. If I can't make money there then I need to go back to working on Networks and Computers.

Thanks for the reply.

I've run into guys that used to be LS O/Os. They will claim different things as to why LS sucks, but most of them either got fired or couldn't handle the fact that you have to think for yourself a bit in order to make it there.

We talked to them in Louisville at the truck show - my hubby was very impressed with the whole thing. If/when we ever get our own, he is seriouslly thinking of trying them.

I just met some LandStar O/O through my wife's Mary Kay connection. They are a Husband and Wife Team and they have never been happier. He has been driving for 15+ years I believe, and has never worked for a company like LandStar.

Like I said, I talk to as many LandStar O/O's as I can at Truck stops and on the CB on the road. I've not found a more satisfied group of drivers. Other than those with their own Authority and that varies.

I’ve been getting my own loads with Malone, but I'm limited to what I can haul because of their record in the past with some commodities and with some customers.
Plus InternetTruckStop.com canceled my account that I paid for because I'm a Malone O/O. They said that CRST doesn't allow for their O/O to have an account. (And it's true; I verified it with the Birmingham Terminal.) So they refunded me my money. I guess they have enough business that they don't need any more money.

Plus Malone claims a 90-agent network, but I've only been able to get a hold of 30 or so. That's for the entire 48 states. And when 5:00 hits they can't be found on a phone.

I've seen LandStars agent listing of 1000+ and I've gotten loads from LandStars Broker board when Malone agents have told me that there are no loads in the area.

Also LandStars Agents don't have control of how the Line Haul or Tarp Pay or Fuel Surcharge is split up.

Malone's agents try to keep it all as Line Haul so that their percentage is higher. Which boggles my mind that they would want 23% more of my Fuel Surcharge.

That's why I just got home and I'm filling out my LandStar package that they mailed to me after I did the Pre-Qualifying.

Just a matter of time if all goes well.

It'll prolly be the first company that I'd want to paint its name on my truck. LOL

I call landstar a few days ago.... They told me it took two weeks to lease on... Is that true? Also what do they pay to pull their dry box.... Is it really you pick your loads off their intranet and pick it all? Please post up some details... Thanks, Thomas

Well, I'm going on 4 weeks to get in so it better be worth it!

The guy I'm going to work for has been there for 21 years and that says something!

You pick your loads and you work when you want to work.
Not having a good week and stressed out? Get a load going near the house and take a few days off.

There really is freedom here...but I won't know for sure until I'm there...

I'll let ya'll know when I get my feet wet!

Good luck, as long as freight isn't too slow you'll enjoy it!
