I'm thinking about buying a tractor And leasing it on with landstar hauling one of there trailers . I'm not gonna drive it got a good buddy of mine that I was gonna stick in the truck and let him run.. will that be a pretty profitable decision? I'm still gonna stay employed at the oilfield company I'm with at the moment and just use the truck as a side gig.
need some insight fellas

From what I have seen when others have tried that, you lose two ways.
Money and friendship.
This seldom seems to work out, but good luck."semi" retired, 281ric and freightwipper Thank this. -
Hi rl, I've been out of the loop for a while, but it seems, something like that will suck you dry. The only way you could make it work, I feel, is if you drove it yourself. Over the years, I've seen time and time again, where a buddy drove a truck for someone, and had nothing but problems. Remember, it's a lot easier getting into it, than getting out of it, and it could take years to recover, and heaven forbid, if they kill someone, it's all over for you.

I'm sorry I guessed I made that kinda confusing. my driver will be approved through landstar and covered. Already spoke it over with the rep so as long as he qualifies were good to go. I would just be listed as the owner. I guess I made it sound like I was gonna try and pull a quick one on them and that's not the case.

No, I am not thinking that. Just because he is 'covered' does not mean he cannot cost you a pile of money.Claims and break downs will make a rich man poor.
Friendship will get in the way of making good business decisions.
Talked to a REP ? Remember, they are a salesman, trying to sell you something. If there was a lot of $$$ in it, why doesn't the REP do it ?
Still, good luck."semi" retired and mosstrap Thank this. -

Well eventually I would get two or three trucks. And he's not a buddy buddy just have known himy a long time. He's about making money and so am i. I mean there's gotta be decent money in it otherwise nobody would be doing it. U can't tell me that every truck owner only has one tractor on the road..
