Good evening everyone, I am just wanting to get some info from any driver leasing from Prime. My husband is looking at leasing a truck from prime. I would like to know if you are happy with leasing from prime? Are u able to make ends meet I.e support your family, pay house bills and so on? Since the pay is a percent of the load is that better than per mile in your opinion? any other info you could provide would be greatly appreciated thankyou

lease purchase with any company imho is just a win for the company tried it out once wow!Stick with my fuel hog at least its paid for. Before the question hits thought I would make more money with a more fuel efficient truck and credit not so good anymore only reason I tried it

Not an owner op, but percentage of load scares me. With an outfit like Prime, I would expect them to be up front and honest about what the load paid, but, what if they bid it so low that you can't make money with your cut.

Leasing, look at the lease payments, and the buy out. I would expect you can buy or lease a truck elsewhere for less, but if their profit justifies you getting a truck when you couldn't otherwise, then it may be worth it.

One more thought, look at leasing on with one of the air freight outfits. Forward Air rings a bell, but I am sure there are others. The loads are air freight so usually lighter, saves fuel, your biggest expense. Also, when customers ship by air they pay a premium. Being in that premium food chain could help your bottom line.

Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck.

Percentage is the way to go but not in a mixed fleet that is finding you loads. The company is out to make money. Lease question aside. But what makes percentage really work is not the regular loads but when things are tight and they can get a fat rate. Those extra great loads here and there really bring the averages up.

But, at Prime you are competing with company trucks and mileage leases and mileage O/O's. Someone making a decision on what truck to put a load on (a person that likely has a bonus with some level of profitability built in) is likely not going to put it on a percentage truck.

    Plus the percentage SUCKS.

Now back to the lease bashing.

A friend of mine leased from Prime for a bit over a year, quit in December. The only time he made any decent money was the time he trained. And even that was iffy. I, as a company driver routinely brought home more than he did. And mine was after taxes. He watched his speed, expenses, etc. like a hawk. Not enough. I am no expert about Prime by any means, but my friend really struggled to make it work and finally walked away from it.

im a lease op for prime and I have enjoyed it so far. my average gross rev. Is around $1.75 and I bring home between .44cpm and .48cpm. some weeks are better than others. I have worked a full weeks and ended up in the red. I have brought home as much as $1500 on as little as 1700 miles. the 72% can bite you or it can be a savior. I pulled a load 77 loaded miles with 48 empty and it paid $600, you do the math. I over fueled a little and brought in $400. I have also pulled loads that went 2200 miles for only 2500, not that great but doable. I think my all total bring home for week was around $1700. oh, and I go home a weeks at a time about every 6 weeks. its whatever you want and can afford as far as hometime goes. I like it, and I had no trucking experience other than training when I started my lease, never been a company driver.
