Yes. I figured that part was implied.

Exactly, but buy all fuel in sc and run the majority of miles in other states and you 'll owe IFTA every time.

Yep ... and as long as you pay at least $.20 less a gallon - and that is easy to do in SC - you'll break even in NC and come out ahead in every other state, if you stay east of Illinois and out of the NE.

East of Ill. and out of NE...LOL...Brilliant plan. But in case you venture out of your comfort zone, I was just saying spread it around and you will have a credit and not a 4 or 5 hundred dollar ifta bill to pay straight off the hip. WHich by the way is much like those APU maintenance bills you pay straight off the hip. You never notice those few dollars they save you by not idling while resting, but you sure see those upkeep bills.

Say what you will about apu's, but I would punch a baby to have one.

    I'd rather pay $150 to $250 IFTA bill every qtr, than pay an extra $.20 a gallon on a 200 fill up ... That's $40 a pop. Do that twice a week and that's $80 a week, $960 a quarter ... Unless I'm getting a more than a $600 credit from IFTA, I'm losing money.

I only paid out $800 in IFTA last year ... I saved over $3,500 in fuel costs by buying in the cheap states. I've done it both ways. Put more money in my pocket making fuel price the overriding factor. And I do run in the NE. All 48 and home out of California. But do most of my running up and down the east coast.

As far as and APU ... never said I had one. Same math applies, it doesn't cost justify. Payback is longer than I plan on working.

Better yet, lease on to a company that pays the IFTA tab for you so you can concentrate on whatever fuel price is lowest.

As far as APUs go, mine paid itself off in two years and I have over 10,000 fewer run hours on my truck engine now, six years later.

Not to threadjack, but did someone up above say that Christner only gives you a nickle off of the cash price at the pump? I average 25-35 cents per gallon off the pump price and I haven't paid more than 3.39 for fuel this entire summer.

    Good luck,

    Jim

My truck is paid off like my APU and both have regular maintenance expenses. Having nearly 11,000 hours of engine idle over the years would have cost me a huge amount more in fuel alone, much less the maintenance required for such foolishness.
