why not stay company drivers if you are fairly happy where you are ?

then you dont have to worry about maint.costs, fuel, permits, breakdown etc.

you can take time off unlike when you own your own, you dont get time off, always something to do with the truck. even if its only preventive maint.

been on both sides. except we didnt do a lease.

If the lease rate was the same probably wouldn't be so bad running as a team. If the rate they charge is different for a team like mentioned above LOL no they really are crooks.

Don't listen to the people that don't know what they are talking about, you didn't even post details about the lease lol, drivers here the word lease and automatically think BAD. Lol it's funny, I did a straight lease with my company and I made good money. My highest NET check was 2700. Lowest was under 700. Fact is, you shouldn't come here asking advice to lease or not. Because everyone is quick to say "DONT LEASE YOULL GO BROKE" reality is, they don't know what there talking about... The point is proven because you didn't even disclose details of the company and details of the lease. Do your OWN homework, make a list of monthly bills. And figure what you need to live on, and get all the info from your company about it, sleep on it for a few weeks. If it still feels good, go for it! I don't understand why people will post here asking if they should lease or not and then get a flood of replys from guys that have never leased, or have and failed. As for me, I won't say I failed, but I wanted to try it and I didn't like the idea of making such payments each week for a truck I'd never own, but I did make good money doing it. Bottom line: do homework and give it time to think about it, but come to your own conclusion. It is possible, just because so many failed doesnt mean you can't do it. Many have also succeeded aswell. Good luck OP.

if you realy want to lease then get all the info you can from the company
what are all the fixed cost per week, not just the payment but all the other things
what is the pay per mile..... now how many mile will the truck need to move to pay that........
fuel.... you pay for that remember...... now how much fuel would you use to cover your fixed cost.....
so how many miles to cover the fuel cost....
so how many miles did you drive for FREE
now YOU can start making money....... remember what you go home you still have to pay the fixed cost every week even if the truck doesn't move

now best i can tell you is if it's something you want to do..... take 6 months and run the company truck as if it was a lease truck..... track everything..... what would you get paid for each trip minus fixed/fuel.... did you make money...?
right now you are each making $1,200 a week.... $2,400 now........ as a lease you get paid with a 1099 (no tax withheld) so to make same after you pay the tax you will need to avg. about $2,900 a week..... also think about the things you get paid now.... breakdown.... motel.... layover.... most lease drivers don't get paid for that..... if your truck is in the shop and your sitting in the motel..... you still owe the fixed cost and your out the motel...... think about it

    T_TRUCKER• Thanks this.
