On the mega side it's in the lease deal, trade at the end of warranty for an agreed value and take a new one. Carriers live on fixed costs and hate variables like driver wages and turnover.

The best deal we got was from Ryder, our specs, 5 yrs with extension. 2k mo. fixed plus .010 cpm hub for all maint and Ill IRP base. Plus fuel and Ryder as co-insured. Discounted fuel at Ryder and minimum specs at surrender ( like tires, smashes etc. ) for agreed value set at contract. 90 day notice on the surrender with penalty for early out. Guaranteed replacement / loan if down for more than 24...any 24. ( my stip )

I took 10 like this as a pilot project for a chemical fleet.

Along with all the reasons previously stated reliability especially with the new emissions engines is a major reason. We have a 2012 KW 900 with a 550 ISX Cummins that was meticulously cared for and the engine went at 300k. The liner came apart and wasted the block and the crank. We were originally given a $50k estimate at the first shop it was at and we chose to bring it to another shop and go with a reconditioned block and we have not got the bill yet. We always went with Cat engines previous to this truck and usually went 500k to 800k before an inframe .This truck has been nothing but problems as far as the emissions and engine are concerned. The rest of the truck was fine, but you can't go a few weeks without a check engine light and a trip to the dealer at $115 hr and hours of pages of Diagonostics printed out by the Cummins software that the tech has to fumble through at your expense. I have seen or know of at least 9 people with 2012-2013 Isx engines that had to be rebuilt between 200k and 300k miles . It truly is ashame. I have 2 friends who just bought 4 " new" Fitzgerald glider trucks with Detroit 60's and can't be happier with them ,and one just ordered another one. They seen the horror stories people they knew went through with new emissions trucks and would not touch them. I would never touch a used 2008 to current model year truck after going through what we went through with this truck. Even if you're covered under warranty you're not making money when the trucks in the shop.

I see a lot of 08 and 09 trucks with really low mileage. Probably in the shop more than out is my first thought

Just look on maxxforce, they are the most common for sale at low miles.

Some of the worst were the last of the Cat engines 08,09,10. I know a few people who owned them and had a lot of heartache with them .Its a shame what the government imposes on the engine manufacturers with the new emissions standards. Who would ever think that Cat would get out of the big truck market.I was told by a local shop that a local company had half older trucks and half newer emissions trucks ,roughly 12 total . The emissions trucks were such a strain on the company with constant visits to the dealer the owner parked 6 of them and told the bank to pick them up.He got so fed up with the emissions issues and his drivers having to bring the trucks to the dealer,he didn't care about the hit to his credit ,he couldn't afford the constant issues and downtime with them .

I read somewhere recently that a couple of large carriers had class action lawsuits against the manufacturer due to the issues with the Maxxforce engines.

I agree. Too much issues with the engine itself.
