My company would pay me .58cpm as a company driver.
I ran 2232 miles last week.
As a company driver my check would have been $1295.
    As a lease driver I made $2370.01.
Exact same work $1075 more because I lease.
I stayed on the road from January 1st till January 27th.
As a company driver I would have been entitled to 4 days off.
As a lease driver I took off 11 days.

Just this month finishing up a 4 year lease with Swift and picking up a new 2016 the 1st of April. Did it have its ups and downs, yes, but for the most part, all ups. Truck broke down once for 3 weeks, under warranty, and did I sit, no, they gave me a loaner truck for just a few cents per mile. Due to all of this DPF and DEF junk been broke down other times. Swift was behind me all the way. Even many times deferred a payment or 2 so not in the hole and many times they have fought for me as far as repairs when they felt that I was being charged too much. Say what you want about Swift, but if I breakdown, they take care of me. Not like a bank that says, Sorry that you are broke down, where is our payment. Oh and just finished up a load, 2300 miles, profit to the truck after all expenses, $.65/mi.

.65 a mile is a company driver wage. Since you seem rather proud of that .65, I take it you normally make a bit less at times. The risk vs reward says heck no!

If I can get .63 as a company driver pulling a van, why would I own for .65 before self employment tax, vacation pay, medical, retirement, etc. I saw the billboard for Shaw carpet today.

if, you now own a truck and after ALL expenses you make 65cpm, i would be happy with that

anything beats being owned by someone else and working to make someone else richer

how many company drivers makek 65cpm anyway?

Why would you lease? To end up with a truck, no payment and a title.

    EZX1100 Thanks this.

To each his own I guess, but if only making .65 a mile, it'll be in someone else's truck. There are plenty of companies that pay that, just not the megas. I'm going back to the o/o section where numbers and logic makes sense.
Actually, I'll say this, before I leave. With the amount of companies out there that will lease you a truck to put with any carrier for a small down payment, why would you do a fleece deal? You can get a brand new 780 from lone mountain for $8,000 or so down if you lease it to a company like Landstar. I just don't get it.
