    Hey guys,

I am scheduled to start with CWF in OKC on Monday (Oct 13th). Does anyone have any advice or tips for someone just starting out in LTL? Or information on the OKC yard. I have read through the LTL forums a bit and have seen some good pieces of advice and I do understand what the job entails. There is not a lot about the OKC CFW location. Thanks.

    Are you a woman?

    The men's bathroom doesn't have a doorknob.

Though I haven't been there in awhile.

It ain't the worst cwf terminal in the country but the facility is below average condition. Really needs expanded to be honest. They overflow their pups into the sub service section constantly.

    Funky entrance location setup.

Ppl seemed alright/helpful. No major whining screaming at each other like I've seen walking thru at other places.

Good luck hope its good to ya.

I can't speak for OKC but I do have a little experience with CWF... Dot your I's and cross your T's with them, they don't mind firing people rather quickly... Make sure when loading trailers you Block and brace everything like they teach you to do otherwise if you dont and the supervisor sees it expect a write up... Wear your seat belt on your forklift if not expect a write up... Not sure how OKC is but here in the Chicago area I would work my 14 hours almost everyday... I worked at CWF for 3 months one of the main issues for me was the Terminal was nearly 1 hour away from my house so that would turn my 14 hour day into a 16 hour day... Just way to long for me, by the time I eat, shower, and what not I would probably get around 5 hours of sleep a night... Hopefully you live close to your terminal...

    Best of luck to you...

HalpinUout, I live about 15 minutes away, so no worries there. I was told to expect to work all 14 hours by the HR rep and the driver that took me on my road test. I expect to work the docks for a bit, even though they say they have dedicated dock workers at the OKC location. I saw drivers load and drive while I was there for 3 hours waiting on HR and then my driver.

CargoWahgo, I was told they are about to start on a new building where they currently overflow. Hopefully it's true... I did notice that the building seemed old. And they definitely need more room and more doors. And the no door knob isn't a real big deal to me after 8 years of being in the Marines. Did you work out of OKC or just make runs to it?

I hope it works out for me. I liked the people I came into contact with, but it could have just been a front. Thanks for the advice/info.

Thats good on the commute to and from work... I would be shocked if you didn't work the dock alot even with dedicated dock workers... Speaking from my experience I would normally go to work at my home terminal, work the dock for 2 hours or so then go hook my trailers and head to another service center, unhook my trailers and spot them in the proper dock, then go in and work the dock for like 7-8 hours after that go hook up to trailers and head back to your home terminal, once you arrive unhook spot the trailers in the proper dock locations, go fuel your truck do paperwork and go home... Being the low man on the pole you more than likley arent going to do many long runs, you with get the short runs and work on the dock more than you drive... It could be different in OKC... Keep us posted

Dedicated dock workers are there to screw you outta overtime just a heads up.

Freights been screwing you guys over that way if you are looking for extra hours don't count on it but that place stays pretty busy. Guys up in Indy dropped like flies when they started doing that.

And Boom! That sounded like a woman's name even with truckers sig on the title.

Good to hear they are expanding the place.

I work for truckload. Pick up relays there usually picking up dog food headed to mars Purina or headed to Texas with it. Whoopee.

Now the bigger question. I just got a firm offer from Halliburton to start on the 20th as a field operator. Tough choice... Any suggestions on this one. Both seem to be good jobs.

Id love to know what Halliburton pays, Ive heard its good but no numbers..and then you're likely to receive training from them that few places can give you and more overtime than CW.
Another big factor is the distance and travel expense...
