Renting a car 8/4 from Jacksonville, FL to Birmingham, AL to go to orientation and securement training starting Monday, 8/5 for 4-days. Will be staying at a Micro-tel Inn. Looking forward to getting back out on the road again. Wish I had not got off back in January when a friend offered me a sales position.....hindsight is 20/20 as it goes. At least Melton pays for orientation ($500). $200 at end of orientation, remaining $300 on first paycheck, and will reimburse up to $150 on first check travel (rental and gas). Swift had no orientation pay, but Werner did when I was with them. I drove 10-mos for Werner, and 3-mos at Swift.....I did OK at both, but glad to be getting opportunity to earn more per mile, and learn FB too. Werner CPM varied $0.14 team, $0.28 solo, and $0.23 Family Dollar. Swift was $0.34 East and $0.33 West. Starting at $0.42 CPM at Melton, and $40 for tarp. Plus, eager to see how those KW T660 handles. My previous trucks were 2009 Prostar, 2009 Volvo, and 2012 Cascadia. Prior all van and refrigerated. Bags packed today, ready to go, just need to focus on a few things at home so all is well in my absence. My wife is actually happy that I made this decision to go back out, as I am not a used car salesman.....at least not a happy one. I have been reading many of the posts regarding Melton, and think I made a good choice.

Did you read the article on the opening page of this website about Melton's health care clinic benefit? Seem like Melton is way ahead of the game on health care benefits.

Yes, the Tulsa article was a good review, and I agree that Melton seems genuinely concerned about their drivers welfare. And thanks Noggin, as I have read many of your posts and others....but I appreciate your willingness to help. And it will be what I make of it, just as Werner and Swift....some good, some bad, and in the end what I choose how to position my attitude. Thanks.

Seems like you have a great atitude which is of course half the battle , not to mention you drove before which is the other half , and for the last half you just have to learn flatbedding .

    Flatbedding is 90% half mental.

I agree with attitude and mental statement, as our perception towards a subject is what predicts the outcome, and success can be measured by our level of proactive input. Today, I am putting in my last day at the dealership, as my manager said no reason to come in Friday, so I can have a couple of days to wrap up before I leave out Sunday morning for Birmingham. All packed, but need to go pickup hard hat and safety vest to bring along. And planning on taking my wife and grandchildren out to dinner Saturday night for my wife`s upcoming birthday. Am planning to stay out 5-weeks (35-days) after completing orientation, as my wife and I have a weekend getaway planned for 9/14 in Orlando, FL. I really like the fact that Melton allows the driver to bank days for future use, as last year with Swift I had to stay out for 7-weeks to be able to take 7-days off to go to the country of Panama with my wife on a company all-paid vacation that she earned for top sales in her department. Little things like this is why I chose Melton. Thank guys.

You don't need hard hat, you can get a melton blue one at orientation.
