i think that some months ago, they sold out Jevic (the LTL division..??) and closed it up. SAIA was operating Jevic and it was running in the red (i think, if i remember correctly). SAIA still owns some other trucking outfits. from what i gathered from the article i read, this may be a "holding company" that buys/sells trucking companies on a "whim" and may operate a "main" company (SAIA) for profits/losses for the investors................so, i'd be careful..............
i will do some more research, and if i can find that article, or anything pertaining to SAIA, i will post that later........... -
in this article, it states that SAIA was owned by Yellow.............
whether or not Yellow still owns them, i don't know.
Teamsters File Charges Against Trucking Company
The Teamsters Union Local 745 in Dallas has leveled charges against SAIA Motor Freight Lines, which is owned by Yellow Corp., alleging unfair labor practices, and arguing that the regional trucking company has interfered with the union's attempt to organize about 350 employees who are possible union members.
The charges filed with the National Labor Relations Board state the company has restricted their access to the workers, and threatened employees with disciplinary action if they become involved in the union.
A Yellow Corp. spokesperson has said that the company is educating, and listening to its employees as a result of the union's drive that began in mid-July after workers approached the union, according to organizer Mike Klein. The trucking spokesperson says that only a few regional trucking firms are unionized, and a couple that have recently done so have also gone out of business.
Yellow spokesperson Roger Dick said: "Anything that impedes your ability to compete, including wage costs and inflexible work rules, just puts you that much further behind." Ft. Worth Star-Telegram Online (09/06/99); Cox, Bob -

Thanks. Spouse is gonna try to get out of the otr thing into ltl. Theres ABF here but it will take an act of congress to get on with them in this part of the country. I don't believe Yellow owns them anymore, as when we were teaming, we were with USF Glen Moore and all the stuff they sent us never mentioned their association with Yellow Roadway...
Thanks for your help, though. -
i'd still be wary of SAIA and their subsideraries...... -
Saia spun off from Yellow to be more profitable. That spin off included Jevic which at the time was also owned by Yellow. At the same time a holding company was formed. SCST, the new holding company, was comprised of Jevic and Saia. Jevic was/is a poorly operated and cash draining cow for SCST. SCST dumped Jevic. So then what is the reason for a holding company holding one company. Thus SCST was eliminated and Saia stands on its on as a profitable LTL carrier. Saia then bought Clark Brothers, Connection Company and Madison Freight lines to expands its footprint across the country. Get your facts guys. Just go look at their website and do a little research instead of speculating and getting the story all screwed up. Saia is an up and coming with good wages and good benefits. I'm trying to get on with them now.

No as a Saia Driver since 1990 I love it. My wife and I driver team.

My understanding from a yellow driver is that they bought and then sold them shortly after. Also a little bird whispered in my ear that if you work for Saia you should be questioning your job security. Good news though a little bird also whispered in my ear that ABF will be increasing their workforce in select areas so if you are looking for a new ltl job pay attention to listings...if you want a union job...not partial there myself.

I worked with saia out of ellenwood they will work the mess out of you. I left because to far to drive everyday. I still talk to some of the drivers and they said they got a new t manager and hes has really messed things up. Like all city drivers no longer have dedicated routes the come in and they give them whats ready to go.Now you have drivers all over lost trying to find these stops costing them money. And when you leave with 15 to 20 stops being lost all day sux.
