The idea of this thread is simple, you have a question about working for TransAm, ask, I will answer as honestly as I know even if its bad. But lets not ask broad questions like, "What upsets you the most?" because like any other company I have my complaints with them. This is not a trolling for bodies, I could careless if you goto work for TA, and if you do decide to go lets avoid telling me who you are, your truck number, your tattoo, and your favorite movie. I don't recommend anyone with experience to work at any company. I have my newbie companies that I recommend, otherwise you're on your own. Feel free to ask any questions, even if you have no desire to work for TA.

I'm a student at a non-company based CDL school, three weeks until graduation. We have had several recruiters come in to speak to us, some just radiated BS, one was completely blah and another seemed to be ready to propose marriage. But, when TA came to speak to us, we got two for one, a semi-new recruiter and a very nice fella who introduced himself as the company owner. I was impressed.
I had formed an opinion of the company previously, based on the experience my husband had 6 years ago when he began his driving career. I realize now that may not have been completely fair as he has been through 4 jobs in 6 years and is currently stuck with the one he has due to some bad stuff on his record, keeping him from being hired elsewhere for a while longer.
Basically, I am searching for information. I could call and speak to a recruiter, and I probably will, but I'd also like an insider's opinion.
First question-is TA going to be as concerned about my safety as I am? I ask this because I will be a solo female driver but I've been around this industry awhile and have seen some things.
Second question-I don't have a problem "bending" the HOS, but I don't intend to break the rules, is this going to be a problem?
Third question-the recruiting pitch is, "Guaranteed Home Time" and they say down to the hour. Because we are both drivers, scheduling meetings will be difficult, so I want to know, does TA follow through on this?
And the last question-if I bust my butt, give 100%, do the job, will I be "rewarded" for it? I'm not talking instant gratification, I'm talking respect, better loads, miles, etc. (Pay is NOT #1 priority for me)
I appreciate any answers and hope for honesty. I am currently looking at 3 companies, and I am rating TA at #2 for the moment, but this could change as the answers come in.
Thank you. -

First question-is TA going to be as concerned about my safety as I am? No. Safety is YOUR problem.
Second question-I don't have a problem "bending" the HOS, but I don't intend to break the rules, is this going to be a problem?
Absolutely! I just did 5 drops in 24 hours!
9/24 7am 2pm 3pm ...Drive 100 miles
9/25 2am drive 100 miles 8am.
Third question-the recruiting pitch is, "Guaranteed Home Time" and they say down to the hour. Because we are both drivers, scheduling meetings will be difficult, so I want to know, does TA follow through on this?
Ask the recruiter what "If it's available" means. TA only allows 20% of their fleet to be off on any given day.
And the last question-if I bust my butt, give 100%, do the job, will I be "rewarded" for it? I'm not talking instant gratification, I'm talking respect, better loads, miles, etc. (Pay is NOT #1 priority for me)
No. I have done all these things, and still get crappy runs, poor hometime, and low pay. -
if you think about quiting ta everyday then why dont you
-
hmm, i would guess he no longer works for them figuring that the last post on here was from 07. Also your asking a guy who has not been in these forums since march of this year so dont expect a response anytime soon.

Biggest reason I don't quit, yet, is insurance. Would just have to go work at another self insured mega carrier if I quit now. Most of the smaller to medium size companies insurance require you to have a minimum of 2 yrs experience.
Also, most of the other mega carriers are to cheap to install APU's in their trls (TA does) and they have awful idle policies. Why would I want to freeze my butt or die of heat stroke if I don't have to.psychohunter and BluesTech Thank this. -
well if you dont like ta im currently working for premier transportation great people great load and great trucks

Looked at ya'lls website. 2 years required. Don't have that yet, but getting closer!!!!
