Must be having trouble finding hands...up goes the pay.

 

I drive for BTC. Been here for about three months since leaving Fraley and Schilling.

Yes, BTC did implement a fleet wide pay raise. Mileage drivers start at 0.48 per mile, with raises and retention bumps that will, eventually, get you up to 0.50 per mile. Percentage drivers, like myself, now start at 27% and move up from there. Plus, detention pay after two hours, breakdown, layover, and all that other stuff. I don't remember the rates off hand, as I rarely sit long enough to qualify. Even at steel mills, which is sweet!

Fleet is made up of mostly Mack tractors with MP8 motors and ten speeds. There are still a few International/Maxxforce tractors running around, but they are getting phased out. We are on a three year cycle with tractors. Mine is a 2012, and I absolutely love her (her name is Betsy, and she's one heck of a worker!). When the time comes for me to switch, I will have a very hard decision to make.

Trailers are Great Dane combinations (steel frame, aluminum deck). Most have securement "pop ups" for chaining, which are handy. Maintenance is only as good as the previous driver, but that's normal with any company. I can honestly say I have never had a problem getting issues fixed on the road.

BTC takes their CSA score very seriously, and works incredibly hard to keep it low. Education, driver training, and (most importantly, in the company's view) RETAINING QUALITY DRIVERS is their plan. So expect a drawn out Safety Orientation signing on. Pay attention, there's a lot of good information there.

We haul a lot of pipe these days, plus steel, aluminum, lumber, and whatnot. Tarping pays $25, which is on the low end. But, I have gone weeks without touching my tarps, so in my view it evens out. Bear in mind I've also had weeks where I've tarped every load. It happens.

Hometime is largely up to you, and they work very hard to meet your requirements. I generally go home every weekend. As a matter of fact, this weekend is the first time I've done a 34 on the road since I started here, and it was my choice to do so.

Dispatch is friendly (mine is absolutely awesome!), they get to know you personally. Safety is always willing to stand by the driver AS LONG AS YOU COMMUNICATE!!! (Cannot be stressed enough). BTC is still family owned, and Mr. Frank still comes into the yard every day.

I've only been here three months, so I haven't gotten around to a full write up on BTC. But I will say that at this point it would take one heck of an offer to lure me away. Probably involving a private island and dancing girls for my six month paid vacations.

 

A friends son works there, he's been with 'em about a year or so. He get's home regularly, makes decent money, seems to like the company. I don't think he cared for the Mack at first, but now I think it's OK.

 

I've been with Builders a year now I make pretty good money and for the most part happy with them as a company... Unless I want to work/run a weekend I'm generally home Friday till early Monday

 

Anyone know if they hire drivers from Phoenix, AZ?

 

No the hiring area doesn't go much west of Dallas/Ft Worth

 

do you have ezpass or do they want you to run around the toll roads? thanks......
