Watkins Refrigerated (Former Sunco Carriers) Company Driver. Any info?

    I applied to Watkins Refrigerated after seeing an ad for a dedicated run to TX and back to FL. After doing some research I found out that they came to be after Landspan (dry) and Sunco (reefer) merged. Sunco being an all O/O outfit I am curious as to how it must be for a company driver. I spoke to a recruiter who told me as of now I will mainly stay inside Florida at .38 a mile and $15 hour for any non driving, they still are mainly all O/O but have bought some trucks and are looking for company men. The account for the Texas run is still being finalized apparently and is not live yet.

    I've heard Sunco being like any other O/O carrier out of FL (or any carrier in this state) and paying peanuts, I really threw the app in out of curiosity, just seeing if anyone has any 411 on them.

    10/4 thanks for the response driver. I know Sunco was an O/O outfit, I just never seen them with company drivers. I'll keep a lookout.

    I drive for them as a company driver...they didn't buy trucks for company drivers though we are using the trucks that lease operators left. Helps them stay profitable instead of paying lease payments on trucks that are just sitting. I like it so far not perfect but they will listen and help if u have any issues.

    Thanks for posting. Tell us more. Are you home daily? Spending much time in docks? Getting paid $15 per hour after appointment time in docks as advertised? Back hauling or Deadheading back to yard? Which yard you out of? What hours are you running?

    watkinds reefer is in the process of hiring comp drivers....but watch your payouts..they are extremely slow in repaying you
