Seems like when I was searching around I found that that picture is BJ Hughs. I can't find the picture again but everything I have researched it is possible to earn what they claim. I think part of it depends on where your doing the field work also how many hours of overtime your able to get.
I'm starting class Monday morning for my CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements in 6 weeks I'll be looking for a job in the oilfields around Artesia, NM. Good luck to all who choose this path hope it works out for them.BigJon310 Thanks this. -
I was a water hauler that has been doing the frac sand thing,Its not for me.There are no set hours during the frac i have delivery times every 6 hours which can go for 2 days Its a log book nightmear.Plus being tired all the time and trying to get a nap when you can.I have to say the money is real good 25% of load and If your on location when thay feed the hands the food is good also.I put my notice in and going back to water hauling.Good luck with your job

Since the start of this thread last year and my inquiry of hauling sand. I'm about to complete 4 months pulling a pnuematic trailer. This does not make me a expert but I can give some insight to this subject. The one thing I've noticed in this thread and a couple other threads. Seems to be confusion on hauling sand and inquiries of oilfield servicing companies. Most sand is hauled by a trucking company, very few oilfield companies haul their own sand. If they do, they have a dedicated fleet moving sand to wells or to their yard storage silos. Trucking companies does move sand for these companies as well.
The inquiries to the oilfield servicing companies, you are a team hand and will learn many aspects of well servicing. A cdl w/endorsements is required because you will pull different trailers of equipment to a job site as a team hand. The average starting pay is $15hr.
Now for hauling sand for a trucking company, your pulling the same pnuematic trailer all the time. The days can be very long and sitting at a well for a few days is not uncommon. You will learn to work a logbook if your running hard. This usually happens if they are short of sand trucks or using lots of sand in a frac stage. Sometimes, things just don't work together with your logbook no matter what you do.
You also need to have good backing skills. It can be very tight with no room for mistakes. Most well sites will have a coordinator that ground guide you back into a mover. There will be times when you do a prefill and no one on site.
Make sure you are connecting to the correct mover and compartment number. Cross contaiminent of sand causes headaches for the trucking company and well company. You could shut the job down for 1-2 days and possibly be kicked off the site. I have seen it happen.
Like anywhere in the trucking industry, attitude will play a big part when working with the oilfield companies. If you come onto a site thinking you own the place or griping and whining. They will kick you off the site and may even ban you from future work with them. Seen it happen to a guy, he is banned from two oilfield companies and is on his last straw with the company.
I'm not going to touch on everything because other members have previouly stated some good suggestions. You should carry a small bag of tools, a tube of steel putty and a roll of gorilla tape. That roll of gorilla tape and steel putty will be a life safer til you get the truck back to the company shop.
I'm averaging 9-10k miles a month and could not be happier. Overall, it's not a hard job and you can make decent money. My bank accounts reflect my dedication for these past four months. I wish I made the move sooner. -
