Looks like the rates are going up. I see that Alan Ritchey is paying $20-$21 per hour for water haulers and Chalk Mountain has upped their pay a little to $18.75 to start and $19.75 after 6 months to haul sand. Tempting to say the very least.

I just finished my first week haulin' sand, only worked 4 days and more then doubled your weekly pay. Remember. location, location, location. Head south in Texas and your paycheck will head north!

S TX pays well if you get detention. As far as miles it sucks. W TX pays much better mileage. I'm going to Mertzon in AM. Little over 300 miles. Last week took 100 mesh down there and they split well head. Got 41 hours of $15 detention on top on $1.06 mile. Was sent to OK. Made one run from FTW to Wheeler. 2 from Shattuck to Wheeler and one from Enid to Wheeler. Last load got back and was shut down. Some one had brought in contaminated sand and ruined 7 pumps. Lots of suits there really pissed. LOL Sat for another 14 hrs and headed home. Easy week will take home about $1300 after O Sambo takes his fat cut.

The money isn't in gravel either for the site. We just found out the hard way. The company my husband worked for in Bridgeport Texas was either sit and wait for work, or no work at all. He was sent to san antonio to that yard to live in a trailer and haul gravel . The trailer had no stove and no mattress. He has since quit and i'm currently looking for another driving job not related to oilfield.

I may need to start a new thread, but I will ask here. I know I have to make this decision myself in the end, but all opinions are appreciated. I've been pulling a pneumatic for about 7 years and I have a chance to haul frac sand in south Texas for a company close by me out 3 weeks off for 1 week or I can pull a dry van for .38 in the Midwest and some Calif. Out 2 weeks home for 3 days. Now the question. Which one would you choose? This may not be the right place to ask this, but I haven't figured out how to start a thread from my phone. I figure the money is in sand hauling, but would like some opinions from you that are out there. I will find out tomorrow about the exact pay, detention and bennies. I will be going from Tennessee for 3 weeks and back for 1. Thanks everyone for any input and sorry if this is a strange question.

That question will be much better answered after you get more info from those two companies. I just spent a year in S. Texas doing sand. I'd like to talk to you more tomorrow via PM. Good Luck, whichever you choose.

Thanks and thats very true. I have most of the info from the van company, it's a smaller outfit with about 100-150 trucks and all seems pretty good there. The sand outfit is a company I'm fairly familiar with. It's called southern Illinois motor express[SIMX]. They are running sand in the Cotulla and Pleasanton area. Has anyone seen their truck down there? I'm out on the road now so it may be hard to talk via pm until maybe tomorrow night. I'm leaning toward the sand hauling mainly because pneumatics are more in my comfort zone.
