What's up oilfield forum? I'm trying to get my foot in the door in the oil and gas industry. I have a few questions about the process of applying to Halliburton. Before you guys attack the company and my interest in them, i'm just going off of the information i've been gathering from different sources. (i.e. youtube, instagram, this place) I was told by an employee that works for them in Odessa that they pay for your flight to and from the state in which you work, the hotel or camp is supplied, $50 per diem per day, and that his rotation is 28 on 14 off. The 14 off are paid at regular rate. This sounds pretty good. But I know everything that glitters isn't gold. According to their website they have multiple positions available for frac/cement. I'm from NYC and the oil and gas industry isn't on anyone's mind here. I ask people about it and they have the slightest idea that this industry even exists. I feel like Alice following the white rabbit! I have a wife and 3 children i'm working to provide for and i'd really like some insight into this whole thing. Oh yea, since they do have multiple positions available should I apply to as many as possible? Thanks guys. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

Apply for any and all positions. If you get a denial email, apply again. I've know guys that got hired after applying multiple times. I kind of doubt they will fly you back and forth. That is usually only for overseas work or Alaska. They will probably want you to relocate. Halliburton is a good starting point for oil field work. They don't pay as well as most companies, but you will get good training and the other companies love to hire former Halliburton hands.

I actually have an interview in a few weeks with one of their offices in PA for a frac/acid position. I have put in a little over 40 applications there and have been rejected for a dozen positions mostly out west. I don't have my cdl which definitely doesn't look as good as someone who does so I studied and went to take the CDL permit test with tanker endorsement and then put in some more apps and got a call back about a week later. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn't. That's just my two cents from what I have learned so far from my experiences.

I'm from Ohio. I go to school but just don't really feel like sitting in a cubicle for 40 years at this point in my life so that's why I applied. I also have no oil field experience so the deck is stacked against me but I've seen people on the internet say that Halliburton looks for people that have manual labor experience and will work hard.

not sure how reliable your info on pay is. This is basically the jist of Halliburton. They are the "Wal-Mart" of the oilfield. They are the biggest in there game but offer some of the lowest pay and benefits. They also love to hire and fire. They hire up alot when the market goes up and guess what happens when the market dips? They drop the green hand! I also would not count on a company flying you back and forth. If you wana get on with this boom your going to have to go to the boom areas PA ND and Tex hell theres even work in cali and Colorado. BUT and thats a big but your gonna have to go to them. West Tex and ND is going big right now and if you can get down here and really get it you can find work. Also ive heard of people geting prepaid phone and getting numbers for the area there looking to get work in but you'll still have to travel. People are driving in from allover the country to places like ND and west tex and living in there cars till they find work understand thats what you are up against when your calling in from 1000+ miles away

It wouldn't surprise me that they are flying people out after two weeks; but don't count on this. I say that because I've observed a little and have a understanding of how the pay centers work. Its the money pool for the yard; and all expenditures are deducted from this pool of money; as well as billing goes in. Now when things get tight and the bonus dries up a little they would most likely cut some of those benefits....

You could also look into the San Antonio District as well and still be able to live in a city atmosphere. They call it the Elmendorf district; but its really San Antonio as Elmendorf is 5 miles away according to google maps. Frac goes out when jobs are called and you know when your going; and they are booked for the next year and a half down here. Cement is just as busy and you can home school your kids if you like without any problems here in Texas. You don't have to report to a board and present your qualifications lol like other states.

Most people I have found to be very pleasant and family oriented. I would highly recommend a home in the NE Side of town as it is setting up too boom real estate wise. Housing is still 150K ish and 2000 sqft. Though this will change over the next 4-5 years. I expect the avg to be 200K or more in this area. PM me if you want more info or have questions.
