BEST places to RENT and LIVE with family NEAR OIL PLAYS???

Funny thing, the only times my husband and I have been to Galveston or Houston it was to pick up pipe. Both delivered to Odessa. He didn't work for an Oil field company though, OTR flatbed. Don't know much about the town's though so, I didn't say nothing about them.

Then stay away from west tx. We got good schools in the small towns around. But angelo is a really nice place. Its just not as busy as midland. I know nothing of the Houston area either. Just a big city along the coast. Angelo is in the middle of everywhere. Just depends on what all your lookin for

 

I don't know anything about Midland/Odessa and the other posters have already weighed in on it so I can speak on a few of the other spots.

Galveston/Houston has lots of potential, many, many things for the family but you wouldn't want your kids to go to school in either of those cities. The surrounding smaller towns, however, are the way to go. Small places near Houston to look into are League City, Pearland on the southside and Conroe or the Woodlands on the northside. The towns between Houston and Galveston have potential too like Dickinson, Webster, etc.

As far as Corpus Christi, it's the same thing. You don't want your kids going to school in Corpus Christi proper but the surrounding towns like Calallen, Portland, Tuloso-Midway are where you want to look for homes/schools. Corpus Christi and the coastal bend of Texas are where you want to be if you love the water, watersports, fishing as it's much better here than the upper coast. What Houston and Galveston do have though is the better big city amenities like better museums/nightlife/city stuff. It's a trade off and depends on what is higher priority.

You could probably find some hauling jobs in Houston/Galveston but it seems to have more of the corporate oil jobs, not so much oil field jobs. Corpus, however has the Eagle Ford Shale jobs just to the west of here.

 

Monahans has state park. Big Spring has state park. Colorado City has state park. Big Bend is not that far. World renowned McDonald Observatory is near Ft Davis. Marfa Mystery lights. Lot more things to do in W TX. You don't get out much do you? And if you want to see a real desert visit Iraq/Afghanistan. W TX looks like Busch Gardens. Lot of decent golf courses in W TX if you play. What they are short on is lakes and really good boating lakes. Those with oil have quite lush farms around Midland/Odessa. Easy to spot who is irrigating. If you like small town life then Kermit/Wink area is great. Wonderful schools. Real slow going. Lots of money to be made. If you need a mall on every corner and 24 hr everything then Houston, DFW, San Antonio, El Paso are probably more up your ally.

I get out plenty. Whats there to do in bs state park. Walk the mountain. Monohans slide down the dunes.... fun fun. N o water nearby. How far is ft. Davis. 220 miles from bs. What did I say earlier 250 miles to anywhere

 

200 miles in W TX is like 25 to those in DFW. Got friends who drive to Lubbock for lunch. It' s all what you make of it. Made us a golf course in Iraq. Sure as Hell wasn't Augusta National. But it beat nothing. If you're that miserable I'd haul up and go do oil patch somewhere I was happy. E TX you can work in forest. N TX in farm country. PA, AR, OK, NM, ND,WY,CO, others all have oil going on.

 

West Texas would not be nearly so miserable if it weren't for the incredible amounts of trash everywhere. Big Spring would be kind of nice. Went to the "spring" and it was filled with garbage.

 

San Angelo was a nice town. In the middle of everything...and 100 miles from anything. Personally, I think Corpus Christi would be a lot better...or near to Corpus at least. Too many variables and too much personal preference involved for anyone to answer that question for you very well.

 

Lol no one seems to talk about this, but it's insane just how FILTHY the Midland/Odessa area is... there's just trash everywhere. I've never seen anywhere else in America that is so littered with garbage, plastic bags, and debris all over town.

If it weren't actually kind of depressing, it would be almost laughable that an area like this that's absolutely overflowing with money is so poorly maintained and completely neglected.
