I'm In Afghanistan and will be going this winter to check out the jobs in the ND Oilfields. I'd like to eventually find a place nearby that offers good housing for rent and decen schools and ammenties for raising a family.
I understand rent in some areas are quite high, but given the pay it works out to the benefit if the Family is able to live nearby and I wont have to commute.
My family is Filipino/American and Since they are in the Philippines right now, I can move back and set up a life pretty much anywhere.
Any suggestions on City's to explore further, I'd greatly Appreciate it. I would consider hearing locations in Texas as well.
Thanks in Advance!
BEST places to RENT and LIVE with family NEAR OIL PLAYS???

They just built a brand new value place in Dickinson. 600 $ a week
Pretty cheap for area
Hi welcome to value place ..... weekly rent. $999
You just chuckle...M35a2 Thanks this. -
yeah I guess the idea would be to find housing and job that would offset that whopping weekly rent!!!!!
Someone was telling me Minot area is good, but same...monthly for an apartment is like 1750 on up.... -
I just love that a place named "Value Place" is one of the highest-priced housing options in the oilfield. -
Just fyi. Oil busts just as quick as a boom , with little to no warning. : still might be awhile to go though but get on with a reputable company. Even outside of driving. More job security. Look at spending $1250 minimum anywhere

Don't forget about Oklahoma.....I am currently in the Chickasha area, (halfway between Lawton and OKC) and there are PLENTY of oil field jobs in this area also....housing is relatively easy to find and not very expensive, and the commute is bearable.....
You could also checkout the El Reno area, west of OKC, lots of jobs out there......JAL1972, snowman1980, JB1236 and 1 other person Thank this. -
The El Reno area -West of Oklahoma City,- on Interstate 40 is a pretty busy area right now.
I currently live in the Chickasha area, which is between Lawton and OKC on interstate 44, and they are drilling like crazy in these parts and are looking for truck drivers.....
Key Energy services and Basic Energy are two of the big trucking companies in this area, -and they also have terminals in West, and SOuth Texas.....
I would recommend looking on a Job board like Indeed.com or possibly even Monster and Careerbuilder.com
Also when you are searching for jobs in the oil field, DO NOT FORGET to search for construction companies, they build the pads, and very often the payscales are VERY competitive with the companies that haul crude and salt water, since they are competing for basically the same types of drivers.......
The biggest thing to look for though is housing availability, and there really is none in West Texas at this point, I just spent 2 of the most miserable years of my life down there.....TruckerLife1, JB1236, JAL1972 and 1 other person Thank this. -
many thanks for the info.
i did apply with all majors,
so , i was thinking to just head to OK , FOR FEW DAYS THEN TO TX IF IF NO LUCKmichaeljcheaney Thanks this. -
The biggest thing also -And I cannot stress this enough-, be sure to apply with the guys that have Dump Trucks, Cement mixers, and even Frac Sand Haulers, the pay with those guys will almost be on par with the tanker yankers.
snowman1980 and JB1236 Thank this.
