What kind of physical testing do companies do for oilfield driving jobs?

I would say it is probably safe to say everyone knows you have to be able to pass a DOT physical, drug tests - hair and urine, and have the appropriate endorsements. But I have heard about some form of physical test also being required for driving positions. Can anyone advise or elaborate? Or am I just being fed a line?

I just completed mine for MBI - It started with warming up, then climbing up and down stairs (about 100 up and down total), then lifting increasing weight up to 75 lbs or so from the ground to a waist-high shelf and then to a shoulder-high shelf and back down, followed by carrying 75 lbs about 25 feet, and finally pushing and pulling a sled of unknown weight about 25 feet each way. All this was completed while wearing a watch that measured your pulse.

    Too easy.

Also need to add, they did an actual hearing test in a booth as well as a pulmonary function test on top of everything else.

Wow - Ok - Thanks!! So basically a simplified PT test! Do you know if they have certain criteria, or is it a pass/fail type of test!

Much easier than the APFT, its pass/fail, but I am not sure what the criteria is. If your heart rate elevates too high, you fail. If your BP shoots too high, you fail. If you lift wrong, you have to do it over again (I only know that because another guy here had to do the lifting and carrying a second time since he used improper lifting techniques like lifting with his back and not his legs or carrying the weight too far away from the body).

I almost forgot. Carry a barbell at about 60 lbs 20 feet and back with one hand. Another easy one.

Wow ive never had to do that much. Climbed up a ladder carrying about 20 lbs. That was as hard as it got. Mbi must be a frac or cement job

Different companies do different things. They have a good idea of the physical demands that they will put on you. I'm sure that each segment of the test is designed to judge your ability to do a certain part of the job. If it turns out that you do fail a portion of the test and you don't get the job....it is very possible that they did you and them a favor...my opinion.

mine consisted of a mobility test, and flexibility test at the local rehab center...
The therapist pushes and pulls on your joints... that was it.

then proper lifting technique with 30lbs...

    and it was pass/fail.

Thank you all! I was thinking, or at least hoping, these would be the answers I received, but I wanted to check. My willingsness to work long and hard days are not over, but doing timed and demanding PT days are! Thanks again!
