Are there even oilfields in Wyoming?
Not a lot of recent talk about the fields. Is anyone currently, or has recently worked there? I've got an offer to haul water out of Gillette. I'd love to pick your brain if you've had recent experience in WY. What kind of hours are you getting? Hows the housing? How's the area, much to do on your time off?

    Any info is appreciated
    Thanks fellas...and ladies

Wyoming is a nice quite place, yes there are lots of oil fields in Wyoming. We don't advertise, and many of the companies do want experience. If you need a movie theater on every corner, and a shopping mall, Wyoming is NOT for you. You enjoy the wide open spaces, for hiking, golf, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, snowmobiling... or else you can hang out at the many bars. Housing is available, and the rental rates are not near as high as North Dakota. Hours, you will work hard, and long, 60 to 70 every 6 days, then a day or two off, depends on the company. The infrastructure to move the oil and natural gas is in place, and has been for decades, and has been expanded over the last few years.

Gillette Wyoming is an energy town, built due to all the coal in the area.

I live in Casper WY, a town that used to have 3 oil refineries, now we have one... two closed at the end of the last boom bust cycle...

It's pretty much like TLea said. I have been working in SE Montana/NE Wyoming for the last 4 years-Gillette is the closest town for me. I chose the area because it is busy, but not crazy. Check out "The Gillette News-Record" online for information about rent, etc. I like Gillette-it is definitely a working man's town-good folks there. It is pretty good as far as shopping goes, but on the rare occasions that I have to go elsewhere, Billings, MT. or Rapid City SD. are an easy day trip. No income tax in Wyoming.
It seems like there is a lot going on between Gillette and Douglas these days-really picked up from when I first got here.

    Best of luck to you.

If I spell the name wrong I apologize as I'm not an "oilman" yet...:) But I just heard in Casper on the FM radio that a company called Haliburton (?) is having a job fair in a motel around here somewhere....

    d o g Thanks this.

Yes, I heard the add too as I was rolling through on Wednesday-as I recall the job fair is going to be at the Best Western Ramkota Inn. I didn't catch the date/time, but I think they were hiring for the Evanston area.

Haliburton is always hiring, for somewhere. Baker Hughes is also hiring... the companies that support the oil fields are all building or expanding their buildings in Casper.

There is also a lot going on between Gillette and Buffalo. As wymon says, nothing crazy, just good steady work.

Thanks for all the info guys. It's nice to hear from first hand experience, it surely helps to know what to expect. I've accepted the offer and am currently on my way to Wyoming from Michigan. This haul certainly makes glad I did not choose to go OTR ;)

Being a rookie, I know I have some trials and tribulations ahead of me but I'm stoked for the new adventure!! Can't wait to make to WY with ya'll. Thanks again for the generous info, it's much appreciated!

enjoy the trip, listen to your trainer, and take your time. Driving lease roads is a different experience, with a moving cargo.
