Midland is where the demand for drivers is highest in TX.

Midland odessa is crazy busy right now. There's so much fracing goin on we can't get sand or acid half of the time. To the guy that asked me where. Cj energy is hiring lots of guys in the midland yard. It might take a year or two to get that really good money but even new guys bring home 2500 to 3000 every two weeks.

I'm in south Texas hauling water and work for a lower paying company. My average week is 65 hours and at the rate of pay I'm at that's $1400 and some change per week. Five days of work. 13-15 hour days. I did one 17 hour day this week and holy #### was that a bit much.

$1400 gross X 50 weeks and you get a nice 70k figure. And I'm on the lower end of the pay scale down here. $18.25 per hour. I was talking to a guy just last night. $23 an hour, $50 a day per diem. He works 4 on 2 off so banks $250 in un-taxed per diem per week alone.

Oilfield is all about over time. The bulk of your money will be made on OT.

The permian basin is blowing up right now. From San Angelo to Rankin to Midland/Odessa to Big Spring. Hobbs, NM straight through to Artesia is booming too. Heck you can go up towards Lubbock or out by Roswell and find work. Keep in mind that there is more to this oil thing than hauling water, sand, and crude. They need kill truck drivers, equipment operators, haul truck drivers, and more. Also, the great majority of local companies are paying great wages right now in an effort to starve off the loss of employees to the oilfield. Heck, Pepsi just had a position open for one of their local drivers that delivers to the gas station. $24/hr!! UPS, FedEx, waste services, they are all hiring like crazy around here.

Let's put it this way. If you can't get a job within a week of being down here, there's something wrong.

flightwatch, how is the housing in San Angelo? Is there a decent amount of places to rent? I have checked craigslist, and housing in San Angelo looks a bit skimpy. Thanks.

It's here. You just have to call the apt complexes and scour Craigslist and the likes. Housing is certainly much cheaper here than in Midland where the average price of a 1 bedroom apt is North of $1200/mo. My wife and I are renting a 3br/2bath house right near the airport and are paying $900/mo for comparison. I wouldn't want to live in MIdland anyways. It is overcrowded. The infrastructure cannot handle the massive amount of people. I can explain more about both Midland and San Angelo if people are interested since I just spent the last 6 months in Midland.
