Hi all,
Well, after months of reading and researching on this forum, and getting my CDL, I'm going to finally head out to North Dakota and look for a job. I've applied online thru Craigslist for a bunch of jobs out there, but haven't heard a thing, so I figure my best bet is to just head up there and start knocking on some doors.
I know that the question has been asked before, but I can't recall where I saw all the different answers so I'll throw it out there again: any advice on who to hit up for hiring new drivers? I know about MBI, Hamm and Phillips, Haliburton, Power Fluids---I know there were more but I just can't seem to recall them. Any help or advice is appreciated.
I'm heading out Wednesday and can hopefully find a State Campground out that way that I can stay for a few days.
Thanks to all of you that have been posting and living the oil field life. It's been really interesting and helpful.

I found this information when I typed in "companies in the bakken oil fields" on Google. Not sure where they are located at up there, but here is a list of companies to look for.
Good luck and keep us updated! -
Just be prepared. The oil rig count in 77 was around 4500, it plummeted to less than 900 and is now 1913 I believe. We are about to go bust again IMHO. Most frac companies work you horrendous hours. Try to get on a rig as a Worm. Ideal job, big money and good hrs.

The bust will happen one day, but that day isn't any time soon. -
be sure to check bismanonline.com too, they have a listing for oilfield jobs up here, a lot of locals go to it before they go to craigslist.
when asking about pay be sure to ask about housing, some companies pay more but then charge more for company housing. others expect drivers to sleep 2 to a room. key energy is a good starter company, good place to get all the safety certifications, then quit and find a better company (most are better than key).
also, nuverra (formerly power fuels), deer valley transport, braun trucking, concord, plains all american, jbs, pilot flying j (they haul fuel to rigs). in addition there are literally hundreds of small, 2-5 truck outfits, it doesn't hurt to post your own ad on bisman or craigslist with a brief run down of what you are looking for. -
Wishing you the very best brmac. I'll be heading up there pretty soon as well. Like you I have been, reading and researching as much as possible. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks, everyone for the advice and comments. Wouldn't you know, one of the ND companies that hire out of our school, called me back today (after weeks of me calling them), and guess what? They lost my application. Need to start over a process that will probably take 2 weeks to a month with background checks etc.,, Frustrating. I think I might as well just head up anyway since there's no guarantee on that job.
Does anyone have any advice on taking one of these jobs with hourly pay v. percentage. One of the companies I talked to is paying percentage, but I'm wondering if you make out as well missing out on all the OT. -

From what I have seen on here, percentage is good IF you have experience and know where the wells are located at. It seems that being new you would want hourly because you may only get one load a day because you will spend a big chunk of time just trying to figure out where you are going. So I would think find something hourly until you know the area really well.
