A friend called me today and told me about a bad experience trying to get hire by an oil field trucking company called 1845 in weatherford ,texas
He got to the orientation a day early and drove to their yard to check out the place, the yard was stacked full of trucks, company and owner operators.
He spoke with a dispatcher taking a smoke break and was told that they were very slow and a lot of drivers were quiting daily,,he also met an owner operator who had been there almost a year and was told that he was only getting about 4 loads a week since January.
The next day he went to the orientation and there were 35 new drivers there.
He did some paper work and then a old chiropractor with a bad attitude did the physicals. The quack failed him the physical for poor hearing,,seems the chiropractor did not know how to properly do a forced whisper test,,he said he only whispered softly and he could no thear him because the room next door was very noisy, he told the chiropractor that he was supposed to do a forced whisper and that he was not doing the test properly.
My friend before he left spoke with 3 company drivers in the yard and they told him that every week 1845 hires 30 to 40 new drivers and that most quit in the first 4-5 weeks because they are only making about $400 to $500/week.
An other thing he learned was that because the work is so slow it is impossible to work enough to get the hiring bonus promised as well as if the driver leaves for any reason before his 90 working day probation is up 1845 charges back all the cost for recruiting, drug test , motel cost for the orientation and $100 for the physical. 1845 hold back 3 weeks wages and it is doubtful anyone that quits does not get any money due.
My friend was pretty pissed off and went to Midland the next day where he was hired by an other company one of 1845s competitors. He told me he had a new physical by a real doctor at the other company and passed with flying colors and he did not have to sign an agreement to pay back all cost to get hired.
