    not a recuiter

I am have been with Pam for 13 months, my average for Jan thru Jun was about 2930 miles a week, since has dropped some Oct average was 2780 think Nov will be a little higher, I run hard when I can work to get unloaded early. Build a report with
DM and alway look professional at customers and at terminals. Pam is not the best paying company around but far from the worst, if your truck been down that long con tact Kaye at tonitown and see about getting to another truck, its to their and your avantage to be rolling.

Just had their recruiter at the school I am attending today. At the present they are not hiring he said hopefully by mid July. Only individuals for team driving will be hired at that time if the auto industry picks up. Out 8 to 10 days with 2 off according to the recruiter.

P.A.M. had a big GM contract moving parts. Since the U.S. auto industry is having such a hard way to go, and aren't making the number of vehicles they used to, there just aren't as many parts to move.
But, since the economy is so bad, a lot of people are out of their job, and most people just aren't spending like they used to. So, all kinds of freight are down.
Hopefully, this sluggish economy will pick up, and the miles will pick up, and trucking companies will once again need more drivers.

You can go out 8/10 days if you choose, but don't expect to make any money that way. Expect more along the lines of 14-21 days out and two days off. The one thing that you'll have to learn and learn quickly is that you're going to get lied to by the recruiter, driver manager and pretty much anyone else within the office.

The best way to know is if their lips are moving and sound is coming out, then they're blowing smoke. Take it from someone who has done a year with high hopes, only to have the miles drop out and the pay get cut by 5%.

    a job

Ebonsaint....at least you have a job. So many drivers for other companies are getting fired or laid off. It seems to me that a 5% pay cut for ALL employees of P.T.S.I. is better than no job at all.

Chart Bar On the 5% cut

I'm scheduled to start training (was for this Monday now for the 15th by my choice) and my driver agent told me about the pay cut. What she said was that the entire company took a 5% concession -- from top management to bottom rung -- rather than take layoffs, lose bennies, etc.

I know that hurts. It's got to. But I think a 5% temp cut on all pay in order to keep everyone working is not such a bad solution. These are tough times. We'll all have to pull together to come out the other end with as little pain as possible.

If you think the 5% is temporary, I have some ocean from property in Kansas I think you might like. Am I bitter? yes but I also know that the knee jerk reactions means that there were multiple drivers that gave thier 2 weeks notice. We picked up 3 Qualcom units that were left at shippers by O/O drivers last week. Lots of abandoned trucks and With GM filing bancruptcy, Freight is non existant. I would not be suprised if PAM looses the MTD contract as well. Every yard I hit this week (3) looked like a camp ground. The wine cellars were full of disgruntled drivers.

on a brighter note, hopefully, this shake up will free up some routes and loads.

Hold on tight, it is going to be a long bumpy ride....

NVR2L8, If your driver agents lips are moving they are lying. If you can make it on the economy now, My advice is to wait till things get better before getting into this industry, as a newbie myself, I have learned one thing and that is if the wheels aint turning you are not making money. Right now, there are alot of cobwebs growing on the drives of many companies. 3 days in a yard waiting for a load is not my idea of time off.

I know it is tough out there. I can't speak for anyone else's driver agent, but mine has not made me any promises. I keep track of the health of PAM myself and don't rely on my DA to tell me if I should do this or not. You may be right. It may not be a good time to get into this. that GM bankruptcy is going to hurt a lot of businesses.

I do think the 5% is temporary. How long it will last is a factor of the economy. Might be a year or more. But, when things pick up PAM will have to raise pay to go along with it. The market works these things out.

I can tell you this, right now you are getting something coming in -- that's more than I am. I've been out of work for some time now and anything would be better than nothing. Heck, even if I wanted that ocean front property you are offering I couldn't afford it! Just as well. I hear the beaches in Kansas aren't that pretty anyway.
