Thanks rooster they are beautiful trucks and maybe one day I'll have one. Next question, are the detroits any good? I didn't think the one I was in for a little while had any good power up hills, it was actually terrible. The maxxforce smoked the frieght shaker up a hill. And my last truck had a cummins and killed all 3. I know the maxxforce is easy to beat lol

Rooster are the steering stops cranked all the way out on your 389 , cause my old 379 sure turns sharp, lots sharper than lots of set back accountant speced plastic ..................................

Every maxxforce I have ever driven has been horrible. Maxxforce equipped trucks should all come with long poles the driver can use to help push the truck up hills.

Paccar engines aren't that reliable as many people will attest. FYI T, you can not get a DD15 in a 389 Pete unless its a glider. If your company didn't do California, id call up the owner myself and convince him to set you up with a Columbia/Coronado glider w/ a Detroit 14L non egr motor.
Since you do California, your limited to ISX or Paccar if you go with a Pete or KW. With all the horror stories ive read about the Paccar engine, id stick with a ISX which is the lessor of two evils. Have you thought of looking at a Western Star??? Those trucks come with a Detroit but like Peterbilt, have a premium price.T_TRUCKER⢠Thanks this. -
A couple of random comments;
1. Volvo's are heavier than a 389 with similar specs.
2. The only engine I've ever driven that I hated more than a D12 Volvo was a PACCAR. I do not understand how something so gutless could get such terrible fuel mileage.
3. I've never driven a truck that I hated more than a 2005 Volvo. The 2014 Pete 386 that I had rented for 2 months had the best driver layout/ergonomics etc. that I've seen in my 40 years of driving. That's the same cab you'll have on a 389.
4. Just one major attraction of a Peterbilt over a Volvo to me is ease of maintenance. They've been putting them together about the same way for a long time & most mechanics know how to find the various components when there's a problem.T_TRUCKER⢠Thanks this.
