On my 2001 379 I have no brake lights on the tractor, I do have brake lights on the trailer. I have signal lights on the tractor but no brake lights. I am thinking its the turn signal on the steering column, friends I have talked to say its a broken wire but I say turn signals and brake lights use the same wire, so I do not think its a broke wire. I have cked wires at the back end of the truck they are all good. Am I right or is it something else?????
no tractor brake lights

Do the 4 way flashers work? If so then the brake lights have power and I would check the switch on the brake pedal. Try your trolley brake. That makes the brake lights come on also. If that works then same thing. Check the switch on the brake pedal

One switch for the tractor and one switch for the trailer?

chalupa Thanks this.

if your 4 ways work..sounds like brake switch on top or back of your brake pedal.. useually there is a power lead in to the switch and another going out to brake lights..pretty easy fix..

I second the brake switch as your culprit too.

Thanks for the replies but one question, is the brake lite switch air or mechanical activated?
-
Wouldn't the brake light switch be the only thing that activates the trailer lights also?
So if the switch is bad why are the trailer brake lights still coming on?
