While the point of these attorneys ads are to gain business & get you to call their firm, that's not the full story. It is about competition, but its about: letting people know they can sue... its easy to sue & its easy money........ when normally, that person may not get involved in a suit.
I feel sure, at least some of the people involved in an accident wouldn't normally sue under these slight circumstances. But with all the advertising and ensuring the general public how easy it is & how much money can be gained without any, or very little, effort on your part, how common place it is... "its ok to sue".... "everybody does it"..... "its easy money". That's what the billboards & advertisements are for. Its to capture the clients who would not normally be clients.
Yes, its about "call me", but its about enticing people to sue, who normally wouldn't sue.

I've also heard of attorneys listening to police scanners and calling those directly that have been involved in an incident with a big truck.

In NJ the 'local' ambulance chasers monitor the accident reports at the local townships and send mailers to the parties involved.
This level of slime does one thing for our industry.
Any insurance carrier I worked with in the past 40 plus years always did one thing right.
When the incident is catistrophic -or- involves a fatality the insurance carrier will hire the best possible legal council to combat the slime.
Their effort to protect their bottom line WILL benifit you for the incident.
Your next insurance renewal [ if not cancelled ] will include the cost of the legal assistance and with this incident on your experience mod every insurance carrier will bid their price accordingly... -

OMG, remember back in the 70's, nobody sued. Hell my dad was walking into his bank and the floor mat they had right at the front door slipped out from underneath him and he fell down and broke a rib. He didn't sue and still did business with that bank. They should aggressively prosecute people who sue over BS stuff.
