Recently, I was at the Big Apple in Joplin and the sign at the entrance said no hoodies(understandable) and hats(?).Then, at Speedy's in St. Joseph, same thing. Neither place said anything but I was wondering if anyone else has run into this and if anyone has said anything. Why no hats? Because you can hide stuff under it? I haven't had a haircut for awhile.

Hats often reflect a personal opinion about something, which can offend others.

That is just a guess, based on the wacky way this world has been going over the past 20 or so years.

Seems like anything that would fit under a hat would fit in a pair of slip on boots, pockets, etc.

Maybe they're tired of people wearing straw cowboy hats from Pilot in January

    Why?

because some hats cover faces, which makes it hard to see someone’s face.

If I was there, walking into the place and someone tells me to take off my hat, I would tell them to stick it, I’m a customer.

wonder if they would tell a woman going their chemo to take theirs off or their hoodie?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its about not being able to identify thieves or shooters etc.
I figure nobody's gonna ask a shooter to take off his hat though.

But seriously, that's the point, anyone with a hoodie or hat etc is gonna be watched by security or other employees simply because they didn't remove their cover. Its just another signal for employees to watch people. It is about hats & caps, but its more about hoodies etc. If you come in with a hoodie & don't remove it, you're probably gonna draw attention from the employees or security.

Once you see my disastrous hairdo after a day of sweating and tarping you'll request the hat be put back on.

That was a thing in Missouri a few years ago. It’s all about identifying suspects in the event of a crime. It quickly went by the wayside, and the signs are leftovers from that time.

I stop at the big apple several times per week (excellent Indian food!) and I wear a hat every time.
