So I got the nozzles out this afternoon and all but one was definitely leaking based on the mess around where they go in. They are 7w7049 and look to be original. Any suggestions on sources of new/reman ones…cat has remans for 146 a piece which honestly sounds pretty good my normal supplier for fuel system stuff has nothing for them.
Is there a better nozzle to use…turbo is a or5733 and I would assume the pistons are original?
Had to make this socket to get the hold downs off. IMG_6332.jpeg IMG_6331.jpeg IMG_6330.jpeg
And made a similar setup to what wore out suggested to pull the injectors.

I would go back with new. They are 200 a piece but we’ve had more than our share of trouble out of CAT remans. If you do go with remans at least get them pop tested before installing

I am taking ford specific parts of a 5kj 3406 with the same 7e-5888 pump but this one has a 4p998-5 cam with what appears to be 18* scribe in the end.
I do believe that this was a complete out of frame rebuild with genuine cat parts but probably someone messed up when they tightened number 4 rod…it almost cut the block in two from the liner down. Kind of unimportant but just some background. Sadly I don’t even think it made it to the first oil change.
Is this a good pump and cam for a future project(assuming it’s not damaged)?

Maybe, depends on how much knowledge you want to share lol. I haven’t gotten quite that far with this project in general to decide what I want to get rid of. Is that a good pump then or just fits with something you have setup?
Is there any pattern to the number system on cat injectors? I pulled one from this parts engine and it was a 0r3423 which I know is a reman. I understand that the piston crown needs to match the nozzle and the timing. kinda wonder about pop testing them and putting them in this other engine instead of buying new ones.

It’s the first run of the larger cam which turned to the dual scroll plungers. It works well with low compression pistons but you gotta use it all as in pistons, 6634 plungers, and 130-5187 nozzles.

I’m not sharing anything you can’t find out they are hard to come by but out there obviously. If you’re just freshening up the 3ZJ stick with the 3ZJ pump or you’ll hate it. Way too much timing. If you’re wanting to build a monster from the naked block up use the 5KJ. But it gets expensive HP ain’t cheap, (again nothing you’re not already aware of).
