It sounds to me Greatwide may be in violation of the Truth in Leasing Regulations in some areas you mention . I would be inclined to contact OOIDA 800-444-5791 and speak to someone in the compliance dept and tell them of these happenings . If it is truly happening and you get enough o/o's to join the fight a class action suit could be brought against them . If it were to come to fruition it obviously could take years to settle but in the short term would force them to change their ways . For the uninformed OOIDA has been very successful in leading and winning class action lawsuits . If anything they could certainly guide o/o 's who are getting shorted with the information they need to address their concerns to management . I'd start by getting very familiar with the Truth in Leasing Regulations . For starters they MUST provide you with the actual billing of a load . Of course they can be altered and falsified to match what they are telling you but in an investigation the shipper would have to release the same invoice to cross ref against theirs to show they are in clear violation and cheating you out of money . There are many avenues to be taken here and to start I'd stop bending over for starters . OOIDA may have some complaints and alterior motives as an organization but they have always been VERY knowledgeable when it came to any questions I had in the
past . I have to say , as I read about this stuff on here all the time , until ALL driver's educate themselves about compliance and their few right's we as an industry will always be vulnerable to those who operate with zero integrity . It is and never has been about the driver . Greed and money is the only thing that motivates them and their shareholders . It is unfortunate the profit margins are so slim that more o/o' s can't operate under their own authority to cut out as many middle men as possible trying to screw you . It takes a lot of work and knowledge to have your own brokerage and run your truck(s) to completely cut out the vulture' , ie . Brokers . Well good luck to all and be safe , God Bless .Rollover the Original and nonstop Thank this. -
I work for GW and I can say this.... There are loads plenty of them however everyday all I hear is this... i dont run backhauls... oo i dont go on that side of town... i got something to do so I can start until such and such time... oo thats all you have at that time??? There is a serious NEED for these drivers to understand being a truck driver isnt an easy job... and yes if you want to make money you gotta work for it... TONS OF LAZY DRIVERS with demands and complaints... At the end of the day you chose this career if you dont like it find another job... Now when I do chat with a hard working driver i make sure i tell him thank you for all you do....

Yep, and many who don't like the way they are treated at your average OTR carrier ARE going elsewhere.
What do you have left?

Yes we have drivers that don't do this I don't do that. I am not one of them and I have major problems with you talking down to people.
Oh btw read the contract READ IT. They don't have to take anything from you I hope they don't in fact I hope we lose whatever contract you are on so you will be unemployed.. Yeah yeah I may be as well, but you forget I have a CDL and a pretty decent truck with a hell of a driving record.. I can find a job tomorrow. You won't -

I had issues with drivers at first and i had to bust my ### to work that out. I was treated poorly because of things done to them by people who worked there before me. It took time and had work and respect. I gave it and demanded it in return. if dispatchers arent willing to go that extra mile to earn the respect from the drivers they should stop whining when those same drivers dont feel like getting out of bed in the middle of the night to help out. Isnt that what being a dispatcher is? Maybe they should consider changing careers.bigblue19, Temptinfates and nonstop Thank this. -
What?? You need sleep?? Come on isnt there something you can take to fix that... i mean what r the chances of u getting picked for a random and it costing your job, truck, credit, and career? Who cares about the law..... the only thing the police can do is ruin you financially. Unless you have an accident from driving that dangerous machinery on the road next to a family in a normal size car..... but everyine will understand and give you a second chance if you fall asleep and kill a kid or two. Im sure when u slide in the ice and rear end someone while pulling a loaded trailer walmart will be concerened for your safetly and not even mention the trailer full of food they now want you to pay for.... im sure you can find the money somewhere since you will be fired youll have time to look for it!
And if all else fails, u at least can bank on the integrity of your co workers. That dispatcher who begged you to bend the rules to save their ### will surely have your back and would never stand silent while your job is in jeapordy!
Isnt that how it works???
NOTE for that outspoken distacher: When greatwide is willing to pay income taxes, truck payments and repair, insurance for trucks, insurance for employees, benefits, 401k, vacation, overtime, and take the hit for the drivers errors.... when they are willing to do all that then you can force dispatch. Until then you will have to rely on the mutual respect you work towards with your drivers and the same goes for drivers and you.WorldofTransportation Thanks this.
