This PDTI certification is a real stinker. I called recruiters at Crete out of interest of going there, and asked them about schools they accept students from.
No matter what I told this recruiter about the school I most wanted to attend, and for good reasons, all they could say was, "it has to be PTDI certified." (Add high pitched nasal quality to the voice for proper emphasis)
I was so irked, I said thank you and hung up the phone. Okay, that was rude, but what is up with a person or company who will not even attempt to listen to reason?
The school is Salt Lake Community College, check it out if you want to research it yourself. One of the instructors there, when I asked him why they did not have the PTDI cert. told me that the cost to them was somewhat prohibitive, and that it just was not neccesary for them to have. I have to agree with him on this point. This school is accredited by the Northwest Commision on Colleges and Universties. It doesn't get much better than that. The instructor also informed me that they actually exceeded PDTI standards, and that some well respected companies sent their employees there for training including ABF and FedEx.
So what gives? I know standards of performance are a good thing, but I think SLCC has these standards set in place, if not by PDTI.
I wonder if I could call Crete back and reason with SOMEONE there? :smt021

Greetings!
I just finished looking at CRETE and PTDI. I will be surprised if CRETE the "no shortcuts" company will waiver much. Utah and California use a state standard (along with about twenty three other states). Not all of them are as stringent as PTDI and some of them more. Good luck though. You will have to find PTDI through your search engine they won't let me paste the link here. There are no PTDI schools in Utah. Arizona has two schools one of which is SWIFT driving academy. You can look further in these pages to see what a record that company has. Go figure?

Evidently PTDI isn't bringing in enough money to keep their own website updated. Hah.
There are two PTDI certified courses here in Utah, one from Sage and the other Roadmaster.
I'm so tired of this I just want to get it overwith. I'll probably do Roadmaster. They put you through 160 hour course in 3 weeks.
I really just want to get out there and start driving. My budget is really short anyway. I don't have a lot of time to devote to the community college. -
'Nuff said. -
I went to a PTDI certified school in Oklahoma. It was a technical collage that had a transportation and safety department which did the truck driver training. It was a state endorsed program. They train most all of the oilfield companies employees in Oklahoma to get there cdl class A to do there jobs. My tuition was $3,900 that came out of my own pocket. This was classroom and hands on training along with housing included. The school was in a small boom town called Drumright. They had a four mile course with all types of skills set up to train on. There were two students per truck. The good thing was when you were doing your course time you had plenty of turns to practice as well as being able to practice downshifts and up shifts on a closed course with a twenty mile an hour speed limit. If you needed help the instructors were always there to help you get your skills down. It didn't matter that is was 20 degree weather they were right there to help you get it done. This was a career changing decision that I made to get back in the trucking industry. I had driven mixer trucks and dump trucks early on in life but never tractor trailer. I am wanting to do local work but as you all know that is hard to do without having one years experience. I did not want to do any trucking company's that are going to put you out for weeks at a time just to be working in the industry. I have been out of school for five weeks and I can't even count how many local company's I have applied for. At this point I have had two road test and will start working for a local transportation company Monday morning. I do think that a school that has certifications is very helpful when looking for employment. Both companies I tested with were familiar with the school and were willing to give me a test without having the one year over the road experience. I will have five days of classroom and on the job training then I am on my own. I feel very fortunate to get the chance but I also feel that I was trained up pretty good. I hope this was helpful, and good luck in the industry.
