That's where the gears are in the transmission. An RTX 15 has a pivot shaft in the tower to reverse the direction of travel of the shift collar in relation to the stick. The later 13 O/O transmissions have the same link, the earlier 13 O/O had high gear forward where it belongs. At that I'd imagine the 18 O/O has the same thing.

How does the pump not run, they drive off of the counter shaft. Also many transmissions dont have a pump and dont burn up, splash lube has served well for many years.

Used to drive a seven speed with the shift pattern reversed. It pissed me off because it was the spare truck so I'd barely drive it. So you'd get used to regular transmissions and be grinding and missing gears with that piece of junk.

It's just an option. Let's your team driver get into the jump seat easier.

Never had that problem. I guess I always know when I'm driving a 15 because the gears are spaced so far apart it won't let me forget.

    I have an '86 with a 15OD and it's "reversed".
Used to have a '95 with a 15 direct and it was "normal".

There was a discussion about this a couple of weeks ago. Try searching "extra shift" or hidden gear" or something like that.

IIRC, there is a smaller diameter shaft or something that gets involved when you use that gear on the high side. Or maybe it was because the oil doesn't get slung properly. I can't remember but all the greatest minds agreed that we would never use that gear again.
