Our Akron yard does Amish country they are usually stressing to the warehouse that they need the trailers to hit the yard very early, because our Amish stops have to like have guys out there moving product off the truck around 2am because if they get behind our trucks get held, up by the horses and buggies and can't move and the day spirals out of control.

One night around 2:00am I was driving on a 2 lane road between Punxsutawney, PA and Dubois, PA. There's a small Amish community up that way. Anyway, I'm trucking along with the window down (beautiful July night) and radio jamming when suddenly I notice a small, flashing light directly ahead of me. I then noticed a red and orange reflective triangle. Took my pea brain a second to realize that I was bearing down ON AN AMISH BUGGY!!!! Uh oh, lol. I locked up the brakes and slowed down in plenty of time, but it scared the crap out of me. I passed him safely. To this day I wonder why in the heck that Amish guy was out at 2 in the freaking morning!
Bob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Uninterested...
The market matters, company name irrevelant...
Central Transport in my town is hot, they got all the freight, everybodys filling log books
OD, is running only a handfull of trucks, occasionally not doing anything here..Ive stopped in every couple years for the last 20, they might hire a parttime dock guy, someday..
So do those numbers matter? Not to me, only my check matters...If it was city specific it would be cool info...
YRC here is driving the worst equipment..I never pace next to them..They maybe making the money, but they aintgetting no new equipment...Id be super stressed all the time there, always waiting for dolly tire to blow...lol
Too small of a market here for a UPS doubles job...the big availables here, central transport and saia, estes coming in third...LTL stinks here end of the line action only, rest is cali tx relay... -
USF Holland here in Cleveland has a ton of very old equipment lots of Sterlings that have been around for ages. I swear the trailer fleet is the same fleet they had when they were TNT Holland I wouldn't be surprised at all if some USF TNT Redstar trailers were remarked and still in service.
Although tractor wise I think most of the TNT Holland Ford Aeromax trucks from the 1990's are retired. -
I like running Amish country !
Thru Apple Creek, Millersburg, Strasburg...
Nice panoramic view of their nice farms & cities.
Nice looking Amish women too, wearing their cute outfits.
Just slowdown as you crest the hills, their might be a Amish buggy or bicyclist in front of you.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Honestly I have no idea how much yrc guys make but here in socal they have ancient equipment that looks like it's from the 80s if not earlier and they are literally hiring every week on Craigslist. That put together just makes them seem like they would pay very low.
I know ltl runs old equipment but every single yrc truck and tlr I've seen on the road looked like old junk that was not road worthy and a bubble gum patch away from blowing up. It's very bad public image on their partMike2633 Thanks this. -

Reading in JOC this morning Old Dominion had a stagnant month with only 0.2% growth. Swift they said is still in the hole parking trucks and trailers at terminals. 330 trucks (drop in bucket) removed from Swifts General OTR fleet.
