Leasing is a great way for a new guy to become an o/o. No one said anything about it being a job on steroids, its more like a business on training wheels. Ive a background in business management. Ive ran businesses with more than 50 employees. Ive handled staffing, payroll, scheduling, labor cost control, training, inventory control, product cost control, loss prevention, and building maintenance. The amount of decisions involved in completing the above is mind boggling, it takes much much more skill than simply which route do i take and where do i fuel do i accept that load or pass. Leasing from an otr carrier is nowhere near as complicated as running a business in any other industry not in the same stratosphere not even close. Yet that doesnt stop folks from attempting to intimidate others by telling them about the complexities of running a lease business(on training wheels), all the while trying to boast themselves and what theyve done. Though i think the simplicity of a lease is a good thing for new guys looking to get into o/o. Sorry IP i dont mean hurt your pride here.
let's talk fleet managers

Bingo, hit the nail on the head. Its a safe way to test the waters of full on ownership.
And ip, youre not an owner yet so shut up, success is still loving you. You still get dispached the same, and pull the same freight, and still dont have the title. Yea, you do get 8 percent more on the linehaul. Atta boy lil fella! -
So, Supertrucker, if this is so simple and easy, why is it only a handful are successful at it?Last edited: Apr 11, 2014

Because anyone is allowed to attempt it. You dont have prove anything to a lease company, they dont screen for knowledge of trucking, business management, and oh yea, common sense.
Then people dont have any kind of support because allstars like you want to talk #### when they ask a question. and supertrucker? Not hardly. But keep trying. -
You've got plenty of support right here. Look back to the first posts... I even gave you a heads up about one of the FMs. You assume way too much- before you started going off, my only comment was jumping right from TnT to a lease is a bad idea, and there are a lot of reasons that this is true. But seeing that you've already figured the whole deal out, carry on. Don't forget... you've found the place to seek help... right here.

Well it doesnt come off like that when you say the #### you say. You borderline attack me for asking a question, thats not supporting. I'd like to be able think I could post up and if im wrong get a straight answer, not some dont go lease cause youre dumb and can't route. I mean come on man, we should have each others back. Ill be the first to admit ive already learned alot from you, and as much as youve irritated me lately, still look to the way you run as a great model to follow.
I understand you dont think its wise, but im not going in blind. Ill agree 90 percent dont have any business doing ehat im about to do, but I spent the last 2 years setting up for this move. We'll just have to see how it goes -
Pouring Coal, Glad to hear you are almost done and ready to hit the road. Good luck to you.

Since I was a kid. Grandpa, uncles, cousins stepdad, all independents Means nothing , my Grandpa, uncles, cousins are / were surgeons and I can guarantee you would not want me to perform surgery on you. My son and nephew were around trucking all their lives and found out they still had a lot to learn when they started up their own company and they appreciated info given to them from others

Yep, 10-4. Never said I didn't appreciate the advice. I do.
The counter point to your argument. I bet you didnt spend your free time your college education,, summers, and holidays looking over their shoulder and performing surgeries your self lol.
Thank you all, you're great. I very much appreciate the recommendations for fm's. Ill step aside now.
