Need help picking a route over the Rockies...

    Well, the time has come for me to hand over the keys to my Sperry Rail truck, and get back in my 4-wheeler (with a Uhaul trailer) and drive from Atlanta-Houston-Seattle to start my new (MUCH better paying) job.

    I gotta do it, so what's the best route up and over the Rockies?

    If it was me I would go to fort worth and catch 287 and run it all the way to limon co. then run 70 to denver then 25 up to fort collins back on 287 to laramie wy. then 80 west to 30 up to 15 north to 86 west to 84 west to 82 west to 90 west to seattle!! Easy as pie

    That's what google maps was saying, but my brother was saying that either 70 or 80 went up to 14,000 feet and was where car makers took their cars for stress tests and what-not...

    It's 70 west of Denver that goes to 11k feet. Go with the route in the prior post.

    Neither one goes that high. Now if you want to take 70 and bypass the Eisenhower tunnel by way of Lovland pass you might get closer to 12k

    If you go the route I said there are no major mountain pass' . A few smaller ones but nothing like 70 west of Denver.

    Yeah, but you're over 6000 ft when you get to Denver. It's another 6000 crossing Loveland Pass. Just take your car out of overdrive and you'll cross it fine. What kind is it anyways?

    There's a bunch of snow in the NW now. You better check the weather.

    I'll be runnin a 6 cyl. 2007 Chevy Trailblazer with 4wd, pulling a dual axel 6'x12' uhaul...

    If I was runnin light, and by myself, I'd pick the toughest route punch it! but this run I'll have my girlfriend and her 4 year old son... it's gonna be interesting...

    Oh, also, I still have 2 weeks here at Sperry Rail. Once that clock winds down a bit more, I'll take a closer look at the weather.

    Go with the run through wyoming on I80. 70 west of denver is horrible in the winter, with closings pretty much at random due to the DOT out here. I live here and even I avoid it like the plague!
