I have located a school called Interstate Trucking Academy. I beleive it is a one school, independant. Located in Melbourne,Fl. which is the next town over for me so I can come home every night. When asked if they are PTDI cert. he replied "Thats not such a big deal. All it is is a secretary at a desk in the Carolinas somewhere." Or something to this effect. He did say that they were cert. by others altho I didnt get who.
They also give the course for $2500+around $38 for drug test and around $55 for physical. He says it is a 160 hr. school. 2 weeks. 6 days a week. You have to have your permit before you start which he says cuts down on school time. I know when I went to 1 weekend with TDI all we did for 2 days was go over permit test stuff. That was 20 hrs right there.
I know whatyour thinking. 160 hrs divided by 12 days = over 13 hrs a day. I havent asked about that yet. I dunno.
My major question is about the PTDI cert. and how big a deal is it?
school not PTDI certified

Judging by the failure by anyone to reply I have to assume that PTDI certified isnt that big a deal.
At any rate, FYI I talked to the school again today and they say they hire out to 54 different companies that take students. He said they are not allied to any one in particular and they set you up with the one that suits your needs the best.
They do not finance, which helps keep the price down, so if you wanna go there you have to come up with $2500+$58 physical+$37.50 drug screen and whatever accomodations you can figure out. If you need help with local hotels or campgrounds(good luck camping. Snowbird season here soon) I could help a little as I live in the area.
Good luck
P.S. I will be going to this school in a couple of monthe so i'll post as to how it goes. -
Do not believe PTDI is that big a deal except for a few companies that for some reason have it in their heads its the only way. The Tech school I will go to is not PTDI, and is 300 hours long. Call some companies, of the ones I have called 160 hours of training is the min. However their was a least one that said no, because it was not PTDI.
-
Thank you sir.
I know the hours of training are at the min. but the fact that they hire out to 54 companies says I'll get a decent job. He did say that Schnider will take you from there. They also have posters for CRST, Covenant, Werner on the walls. He was pushing CRST for myself and my wife team.
That team may not take place now. I took some advice here and my wife is thinking about it and I think it's not going to go "my" way. Thats ok. Better a happy wife than a mad divorce!!! -
I understand the family thing, wife, etc, however I just can not see teaming in any aspect. I bet trying to sleep in a moving truck can not be fun.

If I were you I'd read exactly what PTDI certs mean and the purpose of them. Here's the link About the Professional Truck Driver Institute, Inc.
It might and might not make a difference.

Sorry it took me so long to find this..............
School accreditation is very important. A CDL mill will not be accredited. There is a thread here, where Turbo covers this very well. I'll see if I can find it. It would be to your best interests to search this site for the term "Accredited".
Hey, it is your money, your time and your future......make the most of it and leave the CDL Mills alone.
BTW, it is the person who answers the phones job to tell you guys that accreditation means nothing. This is the bigging of the lies you'll hear. -

Here is a link to the thread started by Turbo Trucker concerning this. It took me 10 seconds to find this using the search tool.

The school you mention tried posting here recently and I deleted the post. I always research these places to insure that I am correct. This is one school that uses different names in a couple of different locations.
Be afraid.....BE VERY AFFRAID! -
You beat me too it!
