    Ladies and Gentleman,

In the past two months I have had many opportunities to interview potential employers. I do not know about you, but I like to be prepared and know what I am getting into. I have job ads placed everywhere and often get calls. The questions are as follows:

Questions to ask a potential employers:

    What are your requirements??
    Age
    Insurance

    What do you haul??
    Temp Control
    Flatbed
    Dry
    RGN
    Curtainside
    Hopper

Is this a 1099 position meaning do I pay my own taxes??
This can work both ways. Most companies will give you a W2 in which they with hold federal taxes, work mans comp, social security, insurance etc..

    What is your DOT number??
In other words, do you have issues. A small company could have in one area due to one driver incident.

How well do you maintain your trucks???
How often does the oil get changed, air and fuel filters, and how do I pay those costs?? Do you call it in?? Do you give me a separate credit card??

Questions a small company might ask you:

How much experience do you possess??
Having a license for one year does not count as one years worth of experience!!

    What equipment have you driven??
What make and model of truck along with the year. What kind of transmission.

    What did you haul??
Temp control (aka Reefer), Dry Van
    Flat, Step Deck
    RGN

What was pay rate and was it salary??
Were you paid by the mile, percentage, salary.
Per week, mile and if percentage; what was your average?

How many miles do you average per week??
how many miles did you typically run in a week??

    Where did you run???
SE, NE, Mid west, 7-Western, Great Lakes region, NW,

Why did you leave your old company??

What can you do to help my company??
In other words, why do you want the job and what skills do you possess?? Can you change a light bulb, belts, fuel filters, air filters??

    Are you mechanically inclined??
In other words, can you perform small repairs and learn how to repair stuff that may happen while you out on the road.

Stuff worth mentioning to potential employers that are o/o's or small companies:

You are mechanically inclined. A disability if you have one. Any pets you have. How you run a truck. Previous job experience besides trucking. Pay rate you to be paid if he has offered a job and asks what you want.

IE: I told one I wanted to bring a cat, could change light bulbs, air filters, had aspergers syndrome, and have prior customer service experience. I also told him I wanted to learn. I also told him, pay me what I deserve. If you think I deserve .355 cpm, then employ me at that pay rate.

I hope this helps everyone out when it comes to companies that give interviews. I know most if not all small family owned will and require a drug test prior to employment.

Appreciate the list. So far I have yet to be asked a single one of those questions and have only been told that my application looked good and I will be receiving a packet in the mail shortly.

As a wannabe you will be asked questions about your background. In addition you will be asked to explain the gaps of employment. If you went to school, list that as work and print out the transcripts that prove it. Also if you have any accidents, reports would be helpful as well.
