Please, everyone, share what the different trucking company's REAL pay policy is?
I know, first hand, of the following:
Watkins & Shepard starts solo company drivers out at $.26/mile, and pay mover's miles.
Central Refrigerated states in an ad that it starts you out at a ridiculously high rate. New solo companny drivers actually start at $.28/mile, after a month of training, and it's based on zip-code to zip-code miles.
US Xpress pays:
<600miles = $.34/mi,
>600miles and <900 miles = $.31/mi
>900 miles and <forget = $.27/mi
...
What I really want to know is, which company pays the most for only a few months experience?
Cents per Mile, What company pays what?

You gotta call around and find out. No one around here has that info on the top of their head. I mean, we're good, but not that good. Plus, pay rates change constantly.

The bottom line is how much you make per week, and how hard you have to work for it.
I made more money working for a previous carrier that paid less per mile, but the runs got higher miles, more time off, and the truck actually ran the speed limit in most states. Too bad they went out of business, now I'm struggling to get 2400 miles a week with short loads, and putting in 14 hour days to do it. -
A guy that works at my company has an MBA (that's a Masters in Business) quit that life and got beau coup experience in trucking having flat-bedded for nearly 20 years. Company asked him to do an Excel program so he put together the top 50 trucking companies (Not LTL's) based on annual revenue. Once all variables including average monthly miles, etc. were eliminated, there was less than 1 penny per mile difference average yearly income for a driver with 1-5 years experience between all 50 companies. Just goes to show that if you scratch the surface there is not so big a deal after all.

This is an interesting thread, and I can't believe it didn't get more answers. Not everyone knows what every other company pays, but they know what their company pays and what their weekly income is on average.

So many variables.....years with the company, Haz endorsement, what part of the good ol' USA you run ? Heartland's ads depict about six different pay scales available. And then there's the dreaded "bonus" most companies have, and usually a bunch of hoops to jump thru to attain it. I love the "run 10,000 mi. a month and get an extra 2 cents". Funny, your miles always seem to end at 9950 for the month.
Gizmo_Man Thanks this. -
cents per mile is no guarantee of miles driven per week, time sitting waiting for loads, etc, etc. -
With western express, they started me with a trainer(salary 375 a week) then after 45days trainer said "give the kid a hat and a truck" i got my western express hat and a 2012 cascadia, started me at 26cpm(14cpm 12per diem), then after 6months i got a raise to 28cpm(16cpm 12 per diem).. at 9months i get 29cpm, and at 1year i get 30cpm... summer time miles are solid, but i'm finding it hard to make good money doing 11 western regional(mountains all day every day) on electronic logs... but the d.o.t lets me be
EDIT: i came to western express right out of truck driving school so i believe this is first time driver(student) pay, i been driving since 10-24-2011 and am at 28cpm(16cpm 12 per diem) next month i get bumped up to 29cpm(not sure how much of it will be per diem yet) i've also gotten 2cpm bonus for the quarter for mpg bonus(+1cpm) and Preventative maintenance on time(+1cpm) did not get 2500miles a week average bonus... but im expecting it this summer quarter
