It seems the pay rate for many companies is usually in the .28/mile range for first year drivers. However, what I do not know is how many miles does a driver run in a year? 10,000? 50,000? 100,000? I also know there are other ways drivers earn money (loading and stuff), but the baseline figure is the number of miles driven and I don't have a clue on that.
So, how many miles does a driver cover in a year?

I am a new driver and have just finished my first year of driving. I drive for a furniture manufacturer, NOT a freight company. I wouldn't want to drive for a freight company. Here's why:
I drove 140,000 miles last year. I made $57,000. We get holiday pay, vacation pay, layover, unloading, loading, and wait time. Our company employs 4,000 people and only 130 are drivers, so we have lots of benefits. We have several sets of brothers, some cousins and a few H/W teams. Most of our drivers make more than I do because they have been there longer.
BUT.....you have to live in NE Mississippi in order to work for our company because we bring the trucks home twice a week and every weekend.
PS....Please, please, do not work for 28 CPM. Turn it down. YOu are worth far more than that and working for those rates is not good for the industry. -
