So will I...
Besides, if you use more than 8.75 hours a day you just run yourself out of hours.
I use between 8 and 9 hours a day (400-450 miles)...and I get more miles per week than most people get by running themselves ragged (talking "company" trucks here). I too have run those LOOOOOONG days....plenty of them...looking back I wonder why.
But since we have the tape measure out...the farthest I have run without a break is 1,260 miles (round trip from home to Lansing, MI and back)...that was NOT a "company" truck. I drove up there, dropped and hooked, and got back home in 20 hours.
How many miles do you OTR drivers usually average per day?

He was definately pushing the boundries of human endurance, to the point of possible death from lack of sleep! -
I average 2885 miles every week with weekends off, thats 577 a day and it wears ya down fighting traffic. On a good night I can do it in 10 hrs (line 4 & legal) on Sundays in the summer when everyone's heading back to NYC I can hit 11.
Forget the super truckers, those days are over! -
A perfect world of 500 a day would be nice. Maybe a linehaul driver on the same boring route.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
Not trying to hijack but how do you work smarter and not harder? If you use more then 8 3/4 hours driving how will the other hours be used up? Loading, unloading, and fueling? I'm sure time of day and location play a huge part in getting miles. Here in D.C. traffic sucks all day every day, so how do you plan around that or do you just suck it up and drive? -
He's meaning not logging more than 8.75 per day... 8.75 x 7 days is 61.25... room for another 8.75 day and still be under 70 - you never run out of hours.
A buddy of mine got caught logging a 900 mile run in 8.5 hours... got a ticket, but nothing more... still... it's a matter of doing what you need to do, keeping yor stuff clean all around, and not getting caught - if you're so inclined to run like that.Ridgerunner665 and sycofirefighter Thank this. -
Mine rounds out to 488 miles a day AVERAGE
