Need a little more info.
Do you have a license or will you be going to a CDL school on your own or looking for a company sponsored program?
If you go with private schooling then you will not need to sigh a contract with your first company. However, if you get company sponsored training, you will most likely have to sign a contract to drive for at least a year. -
I got the CDL part taken care of will graduate from Fox Valley tech in October
-
Now you will make money but more likely around $20k - $25k your first year.
Now that being said, who ever you go with you going be on the road with a trainer for at lease 4-8 weeks, some companies let you go out 3 weeks take a week off and finish your last few weeks of training. As far Swift go's I don't think they offer that so if you head out with Swift, you going be out 6 weeks with a trainer and then another week or two maybe 3 weeks before you can get home. Most companies want there drivers out from 14 - 21 days, the trucking jobs that offer home weekends are the ones where you need 1-3 years experience on your belt.Only very few companies out there that let there drivers go home every weekend.
Best bet is to do lot of research on companies your interested in,this forum will help to answer most of your questions.Everett Thanks this. -
original post removed.......swift is a bottom feeder enough said..
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
that still doesn't answer the question, i know all that, Swift offers 12 days on 1-12 off and 4 weeks in training

groundpounder, i'm moving to NC thats why i'm asking what i'm asking so i can't go with local
-
if you want good money....Swift and good money dont belong in the same sentance
paperless logs and good money also do not go in the same sentance.....at least with a new driver working for a BFI
American Trucker -
lots of great companies hire out of NC

i need a national company to start here so i can transfer down there, even if Swift isn't good money is it at least a good company to start with and gain experience?
