Ok so recently I received a ticket while in Manhattan Illinois. The ticket was for being overlength on a county road. The road was not marked with any no truck signs and I could also see many trucks on the road prior to turning on it. I'm trying to figure out what are my options with this $75 ticket. If it will affect my CSA score or if it is pointless to try and fight . Thanks in advance

Most likely will. As a professional driver the DOT expects you to know the laws and obtain any permits needed for the route you are taking. The roads do not have to be marked by anything. You are expected to obtain this info in your Road Carrier Atlas as far as knowing what permits you will need for the route you are taking.

Whenever you do your route plan after getting directions or routing from your company you need to look in your Road Carrier Atlas to make certain there are no low overpasses, restricted routes, length permits etc...

Nowadays drivers rely on their GPS and it can get them in a lot of trouble. Route planning should still be done the old fashion way if you want to avoid tickets, fines, or possibly an accident.

Your still a newbie and this was a lesson learned. Could have been a lot more costly. You can try to fight this but its going to cost you and the chips are stacked against you with the info you have provided us.

Just pulled up Manhattan, Il on my computer. Looks to be a real easy pass through kind of place. Did you take a wrong turn or something? Where EXACTLY were you when you got the ticket, as in address. And yes it will show up on your record, as I understand it.

Be happy you got that ticket recently. A couple years ago, you would have also been written overwidth if you had a 102" trailer....not to mention the weight limits were lower off the designated truck routes.

On class 3 truck routes and on non-designated highways, you are limited to 65' overall length and/or 55' from the center of your 1st axle to the center of your last axle. If you get off the state highways and onto the local/county/etc. roads, you are limited to 55' overall length.

Page 6 of this booklet (page 9 in the pdf) has the old info....

    http://www.crashdataservices.net/files/illinois_semi_truck_size_weight_restrictions.pdf

If it were current, column "A" would show 8'6" for all road classes, and the max weights would be 20,000 single axle and 34,000 tandem axle for all road classes.

All of the other info seems to be accurate, though...only the width and weights have changed. Length restrictions still exist.

I got the ticket on a road between state route 52 and 53 I believe. They come to a junction, about 10 miles before the point there is a cross street which the shippers address was listed there were also other full length trucks on this road

    Being a new truck driver,

if you intend to stay in this line of work,

    Fight the Tcket !!!!

It may not be a big deal now, but down the road in a few years, things could change.

Tickets only count when an inspection is done.
