So I need some help on avoiding hard brakes since Werner is really big on it I already got 2(some douche bag decided to cut in front of me and hitting the brakes at 95 by Washington dc and the other one it was my fault for diving to fast in a highway with traffic light) and I'm half way thru my training and the last thing I want is to have a chat with safety because of that. Any tips???

More space in front of you.

Yep. That is the answer. -
As stated above more following distance. Looking farther a head of yourself always try to have an out in traffic.

You need to drive defensively. One program that will help you right now is the Smith System. Try to get your company to send you or have you trained where ever. The old trick of car lengths is done and now you use time to judge your following distance. Look down the road past the few vehicles in front of you. Know what the situation is as it develops far ahead of you. Let the other drivers telegraph information to you like brake lights, road hazards, and tailgaters.
Use the 15 second eye-lead time. As the vehicle ahead of you passes a reference point like a mile post or a shadow count one thousand on, one thousand two, up to 15. At 15 that's when your vehicle should pass the same reference point. You practice this and you'll form a habit that will save on brakes, tires, fuel, transmission. It will stop panic stops and may even avoid a rear-end collision. Of course the 15 seconds is only a guide and should be modified with conditions.T-RIX and Larryparker Thank this. -
GasHauler hit the nail on the head. Get some Smith System Training, and then put it to good use. I have been using that system for many years, when I am driving those steps become habit, and has really worked for me.
Happy Holidays, and Safe Miles.
